The bay facing side of Jasper is OK, but it certainly isn't "awesome".
Our Pyramid is awesome, I just wish it were taller, yet it's still original and great.

I'm not overly disappointed with our upcoming taller buildings and certainly glad that Hillary will be the next President of the United States.

The shorter tower is nothing like the Spear St tower, as seen in the article below. According to the article this tower is designed by Heller Manus. I personally really like it, but I'm not sure how they plan on keeping birds from nesting on top of the window boxes. If the renderings are correct, the west side of the taller tower is not bad at all. I don't see any blank walls, and the diamond pattern looks to make it though in the center, with the elevators being only on the corners.

From a distance, the Heller Manus design for the proposed 54-story tower at 518 Mission Street, the shorter of the two Oceanwide Center towers to rise at Mission and First, might look rather plain.



But the closer you get, the more detail is revealed, including the tower’s oversized window vitrines which float in front of a natural stone façade.



If approved, the Mission Street Tower will yield 156 condominiums (including a single 9,100-square-foot penthouse on the top floor over a 156-room hotel and 2,000 square feet of ground-floor restaurant space fronting Ecker Street which would become a pedestrian alley.



And once again, the Oceanwide team is planning to break ground this November.

This will be a stunning addition to the skyline. Those close up renderings showing the stone facade it really makes for a great contrast to the glass and steel.

Hoodline reports that the Planning Commission approved the project on Thursday. I believe this project still needs approval from the Board of Supervisors for the changes to the public right-of-way. They are aiming for a November 2016 groundbreaking.

The Planning approval clears two big hurdles (Prop M office allocation and Prop K shadow impacts). The Prop M allocation was huge, since this project is taking over 1 million square feet of the 1.5 million currently available:

As of April 21, 2016, there exists 1,572,299 square feet of office space available for allocation to office buildings of greater than 49,999 square feet of office space (“Large Buildings”) during this Approval Period, which ends October 16, 2016. With the allocation of 1,057,549 square feet of net new office space to the Project, 514,750 square feet would remain available for allocation. On October 17, 2016 and on October 17 of each succeeding year, an additional 875,000 square feet of office space will become available for allocation to Large Buildings.

After Salesforce, 181 fremont, and Park tower SF will have the premier West Coast skyline IMO. The combination of density, massing, and height is unparalleled on the west coast. It is going to be the most complete skyline in the West. With the addition of these two buildings, SF's skyline will easily be 3rd best skyline in North America after Chicago and NY IMO

Unlike LA's, SF's skyline has meat to it. Multiple dense canyons from different directions and the lack of a need to seek out a flattering angle for framing a picture. Thanks to the density of relatively tall buildings SF's is a complete "big-city" skyline. I really hope this project breaks ground. I also hope the skyline keeps extending towards Mission Bay.

Vancouver has a great urban fabric and density but the buildings are relatively short. Just a quick look in the diagrams at the top 50 tallest between both cities of the top 50, 16 are in Vancouver and the tallest Shangri la checks in at #8.

I personally have always found Vancouver's skyline to be one of the most uninteresting and bland in North America. Sure it has many tall residential buildings and a great urban fabric, as was mentioned, but almost none of the buildings are distinguishable from one another, except for maybe the Harbour Centre, for obvious reasons.

I agree 100. Same goes for San Diego, and to an extent, Miami, although Miami does have some impressive height.
Edit: I realize that may sound snotty which was not my intention, it's that when Vancouver comes to mind San Diego and Miami do too, cause their skylines all look similar to me.

Well, I looked through the approx 400 pdf file.
Hopefully they stick with the metals and materials proposed for the skin of 910' tower.
If memory servers, there is a footnote about the fact that exterior materials "may change" due to price conditions. Hopefully, they do not go cheap and/or the planning deptartment does not let this happen.

But heavens... forget the 600' tower. Personally, I really don't think this is a foster tower. Basically, they cut and paste the materials and design of One Market Market Plaza. Sorry, One Market is an eyesore and the planning dept. should have known better to let them build an even taller version.

And yes! I know it is approved and basically a done deal as long as the economy remains strong.

I'm not sure it is Heller Manus. Heller Manus has a habit of taking credit for other architects' designs when the only serve as the executive architect on a project. Look at their website. It's full of other architects' designs.

i wonder why skyscraperpage took 50 First off the San Francisco diagram? it is approved and they made one? hmm? anyway, here is a comparison i did a while back with all the supertall towers in the US outside of NY and Chicago.
