BTW, this photo in particular I found interesting. For a center of a metropolitan region of nearly 6 million that downtown seems kind of small... I was expecting more urban or highrise growth from the aerial.

there are lots of highrises in the uptown area (aprox 15 from dt). but on the whole houston has fewer highrises then most would think due to houses being really cheap. there is a lot of lowrise stuff that you cant really see in that aerial either.

grand view!!! the impressive landscape in cities is always created by human beings while that in rural areas is more natural. They offer options for people when they want to spend holidays in a wonderful land.

At ground level it doesn't look small at all. Also, there are multiple satellite skylines around the city. For example, Uptown's skyline is larger than those of many cities. Please don't judge based on a single photo taken from the air.

If you start at the beginning of this thread, there are many photos showing the skylines of this city.

That's a bad photo for showing density, the plane blocks a bunch of buildings This one gives you a better idea, and this photo doesn't even show Uptown or Greenway.

I think one thing to note is that the downtown buildings are much taller than any aerial shot can show, even this one, which is pretty good. I don't know where I saw it, but I saw a listing of talls in U.S. cities, and Houston had more than most. Seems like it might have had the third most "really talls" at one time, behind NYC and Chicago. Not sure if that is still true considering explosive growth in places like Miami. It would be interesting to find current stats.

There are a lot of skyscrapers of course. That photo is looking southeast. Most of Houston's skyscrapers outside of downtown are on the west and south sides of town. So in this short the camera was looking away from them.

AMAZING thread Houston really does fly under the radar IMO I love living in Houston, love the skyline, love the sports, and love how culturally diverse the entire city is.

These pics make me want to get in my car and look at the city from different perspectives, I have lived here all my life and cant believe what I see in some of these pics.

Great job by the talented photographers, and props on exposing these all in one thread, worth showing skyscraper fans the wonderful city of Houston.

dude, get you a camera and get out and explore. there is so much to houston but you have to go find it.
