found this image on the idaho statesman site. it's about a year old, but if you look closely you can see a white crane on the left side. the 12th and Idaho building will rise behind and above that crane.

Have you also learned that secret from the river; that there is no such thing as time? That the river is everywhere at the same time, at the source and at the mouth, at the waterfall, at the ferry, at the current, in the ocean and in the mountains.-Hermann Hesse

the 15-floor, dual-brand hotel has been approved with minor changes, mostly to the roofline that will now be flat, the brown accents on the facade are now gray, and the screening for the parking garage has been modified.

below is the old rendering from boisedev.com. i'll see if i can find an updated version, though the changes are quite minor.

here is the approved design. according to today's Idaho Statesman, this should break ground in September and take 2 years to complete.

this will add a 4th crane within a couple of blocks of each other. image from Tensei:

interesting aerial of downtown looking southeast.

the area outlined in the shot is a 44-acre site ready for high-density, mixed-use development, and is garnering a lot of interest from developers.

I really hope they go crazy with that lot. It has the potential to become a really fun and interesting place. Although some height would be cool I think just having a fairly robust and dense development would be as cool.

the College of Western Idaho is getting closer to building its downtown campus on the west side along the river. the CWI River District will encompass the main CWI campus building plus residential and commercial structures, a hotel, pavilions, and a 50,000sq ft ballroom. renderings are from boisedev.com:

St. Luke's is breaking ground this month on the next phase of its downtown campus expansion, a nine story tower and plaza.

I spent a few nights in Boise this weekend, as a former resident (left in 1986!). This was the best real touring since I left.

The amount of construction is impressive. The core is gaining a critical mass to look and function as an urban place.

Downtown is getting really good. The infill and activity levels are making it feel truly urban. There's quality retail without a lot of vacancies. Downtown has become a great restaurant district, with seemingly dozens of places worth visiting and most of them independent or seemingly so. The two ped-only blocks of 8th are a great idea. Centered on that area, I ate at Bittercreek Alehouse, Diablo & Sons Saloon, Pie Hole, Prost German Pub (watched the destruction of Colorado!), and Mulligan's Pub while going to The District Coffee House every morning. The area around the 8th Street Marketplace (or what's grown up around it) looks like another good restaurant area (bought coffee at the Warehouse Food Hall).

I stayed at the new Hyatt Place. I'd rather have stayed at the Avery ($$$) or Idanha (used to be a hotel!) but this was actually ok.

Everything seemed clean. No tents whatsoever (though probably just out of sight, not "solved").

The Greenbelt is even more fantastic than I remember including new sections. I walked from Curtis to 8th on one trip and from 8th to Broadway on another. Simplot Park (or "white water park"?) is cool though I was starving for shade that day!

I walked to civilization from Five Mile (used to live out there, before moving to the infinitely better North End) mostly on Ustick and the greenbelt per above. Ustick had surprisingly decent sidewalks for a stroad.

Tried to take a bus from the airport, but while it arrived on time, I failed to notice that it was going to wait for 20 minutes before leaving. Ubered instead.

8th street has definitely changed a lot over the years. in the mid/late 90s, it was a ghost town compared to today.

i took some out-of-state friends to dinner at Bittercreek Alehouse last year and they were shocked at how vibrant it was...on a Tuesday night. They wondered if there was a festival or concert going on downtown or something, but there wasn't.

Sawtooth shared this picture below that shows how making 8th pedestrian-only really provides a great atmosphere.

Ground breaking at Micron chip manufacturing facility, Idaho
October 6, 2023

link to story: https://constructionreviewonline.com...acility-idaho/

Quote:
Micron revealed plans to invest around $15 billion until the end of the decade in the construction of a new fab for leading-edge memory production. It will be co-located with the company’s R&D epicentre in Boise.

Micron will invest $15.3 billion in the Idaho economy. Furthermore, it will spend $13.0 billion with Idaho firms over the course of the project. The project will generate nearly 17,000 new Idaho employment. This includes 2,000 Micron direct jobs, highlighting the importance of a diversified, highly qualified workforce.
