I don't think an opening date has been set, definitely won't be ready by next Friday.

..... interested in something local? I suggest The Snooty Fox. Fellow forumers, any other good restaurant suggestions for out-of-towners?

Once the dust settles, I suspect that Brookside's going to be redone as a Power Centre; like Uptown Centre. Which will suck because we'll lose access to the Zellers bus stop. Oh well.

If they can keep it open as a regular mall, finding a tenant for the Zellers space will be tough. About the only one I can think of that might fit the demo's and the space would be Giant Tiger; and even that is a lot of space for GT.
No love for the North Side Zellers from Target?

Snooty Fox is always a good choice.

Depending on what youre looking for I would also suggest the Garrison or the Blue Door. Unfortunately Isaacs Way is gone because it would have been one of my other top suggestions.

Would they be able to redo it like that with all the provincial govenrment offices currently in there? NBISA isn't going to want to have all their staff shut down, so if they want to move any of those offices they'd have to work around them and get a new space set up first.

(If the timing had been better, they could have used the Zellers space for a data center, but they built that elsewhere.)

They could probably turn Brookside into a Powercentre with the call centres and other offices still hanging off the back end. There just wouldn't be any inside access any more basically. Close off the hallway to Zellers (or make it office-use only), and give the remaining stores outside access and they'd be done.

On the flip side, against the power centre idea, I could see the current call centres not wanting to lose some of the amenities they currently enjoy. The two restaurants may not want to move and lose the inside access. And Card Rack probably wouldn't have enough space to keep doing his YuGiOh playgroups. And there probably wouldn't be enough room for everyone, even with the other closures that are happening. Some would have to move to the minimalls across the street or other places, and that might not be acceptable.

Plus it would cut off the direct bus route access too. (You'd have to walk around the 'mall' to get to the stores from the bus stop, instead of cutting through it)

Another possibility, but I seriously doubt it, could be Sobeys decamping from their current anchor spot and taking the Zellers space. It would mean more floor space (I think), but they would lose the Highway view/access they currently enjoy. So I doubt that would ever happen.

I think the writing is on the wall. Brookside won't remain a traditional mall for much longer. The power centre format will work well in that part of town though.

Maybe they could rejig the bus route a little so that it either goes into the mall or stops along Reynolds closer to Sobeys. Though they'd probably need to build a staircase or something because of the embankment.

On the other hand, this is Fredericton Transit we're talking about.

There definitely needs to be more photos posted in this thread. I was driving around Fredericton earlier and there are quite a few noteworthy developments going up.

Just a pic of the Churchland building that's going up. Judging by the drawings, there will be two more floors, plus a penthouse. I can't wait to see this area build up and densify! It's a great neighbourhood, especially with Queen's Square just across the road and the trail behind the building.

I didn't think to take a photo of the other apartment building on the corner of Beaverbrook and Regent.

At the bottom of the hill just east of Regent if it's the same one I saw. If not, then there's another one going up that looks fairly similar. Perhaps the one I saw was on Beaverbrook & Regent which looks like another 4-6 stories.

Like I said, there's a lot of developments in Freddy that deserves photos. If I move to Freddy soon i'll have to become the official Freddy SSP photographer.

Across from Queen's Square where the other two green apartment buildings are, IIRC. Or across Beaverbrook from Head Hall if you want to think of it that way.

They could partition it. Half with an external entrance and half with internal entrance via the mall. Not the best scenario for the inside portion as it would be at the end of the hallway but might make it easier to find tenants who can't handle all the footage on thier own.
