It got a lot of attention on X too, and there's a thread for it in the SSP high-rise & supertall proposal thread.

To my understanding it is just visionary tower. We have had a few fantasy towers over the years just nothing with height.

It's probably the most insane supertall proposal I've ever seen. Very out of place.

I think you're right that's it's just a vision, or a pipe dream as I'd call it.

This is about OKC anyway, has nothing to do with Austin.

There's a supertall already under construction in Austin along with other projects that will compliment the skyline. No need to discuss OKC here.

This is a "Misc Discussion" thread. Don't tell posters what they can or cannot do. If you don't like the topic - Please leave the thread.

FWIW - I too believe this is a pipe dream vision. I don't see anyone being able to secure that amount of financing to build it in the coming years. We're heading into some rough economic times.

Hence why I posted in the miscellaneous thread.

Interesting.

It was you who told me what I can't do. I don't recall seeing Moderator under your title.

Also I didn't tell posters what they can or can't do. All I said was there isn't a need to discuss a supertall proposal in OKC on the Austin page.

But regarding the above, if discussing a pie-in-the-sky OKC development is relevant here, wouldn't it be fair to discuss how other cities compare to Austin?

I could easily write on this miscellaneous thread about how Phoenix is nonstop sprawl with a pitiful downtown, how San Antonio's city center is uninspiring, or how Cleveland has a great downtown but the rest of the city is a slum. How would that be?

Alright everybody, let's just simmer down. I think we could all use a little poking around in their frontal lobes right about now. That"ll do the trick; before you know it all of this bickering will be a thing of the past!

Korean semiconductor supplier officially to move US HQ to suburb northwest of Austin

Among the incentives snagged by the company: $10,000 for every employee who buys a home in Cedar Park

Looks like the Sheraton by Waller Creek is getting renovated into Downright Austin, a Renaissance Hotel. Could have added more words to its name.

Downright sounds like it will be a new brand under the Renaissance arm of Marriott. Branding so far looks very par for the course for a new hotel concept.

They're bringing in a new restaurant and bar concept by Miami based Lost Boy & Co and FBR Management.

"Set in a sunken dining room with submarine views of the adjacent new pool, one of the restaurants will celebrate poolside leisure and summertime fare." This part sounds cool, curious where it will go on the property.

How much unease is there in the Austin real estate community about the fast-approaching glut of office space and HUGE glut of downtown apartments?

You always post stuff like this here and on HAIF. What is your motive? Office is virtually dead across the entire U.S. for years. It remains to be seen if there is too much rental downtown, but if there is, monthly rents will be going down which is a good thing for renters. Rent in Austin is too high.

Austin has a housing shortage. I don't think anyone is worried about a "glut" of apartments anywhere in the city, let alone downtown.

Well, all these "luxury" properties can only go after so much of the same pool of renters. We'll see what the absorption is but it's an almost guarantee rents will fall somewhat because you only offer so many "free months" or "reduced for ###."

Saw it posted on HAIF and thought this would be a good place to ask the question. Office being dead across the entire U.S. for years and monthly rents going down in downtown Austin does not make a strong case for the continued construction in downtown Austin. Kinda gets to the point of the inquiry.
