Thanks for the link UT Planner. Here are some pics:

Quote:
The Housing Authority of the County of Salt Lake is committed to developing affordable mixed income developments for individuals and families in Salt Lake County. This development is designed to provide 136 units of housing on 4.5 acres of land. The development focuses on integrating formerly homeless families and individuals into a mixed income and market rate housing development that enhances the neighborhood.
Quote:
The project was envisioned to be the “crown jewel” for the many HACSL housing projects. As such, the architecture was desired to be unique, fresh, modern and very different from surrounding like developments. It is considered a Transit Oriented Development as it is in close proximity to the UTA Meadowbrook TRAX station.
Quote:
The development will be Energy Star rated and will employ low water demand landscaping. Services focus on housing retention and economic self-sufficiency. Up to 30% of the power for the development will come from Solar Panels and we’ve employed a high efficiency HVAC system that will save the HACSL and the residents money over time.

In reference too the Bud Bailey Apartments.
Finally another project that is incorporating mixed incomes. I have always felt that this is the most productive way to accommodate low income/subsidized housing units, rather than an entire building that is all subsidized.

I like the design of the project. The area surrounding Meadowbrook station is really getting a lot of housing development.

Looks cool, but it doesn't say what part of Daybreak.

Who would want to go to there when something much newer and better just opened up essentially right next door? Ideally something else would move in there, but I'd rather it be torn down and re-developed than sit vacant once Hollywood Connections does leave.

Movie theaters don't typically have all that long of a lifespan anyway, compared to many other establishments at least.

Somewhere around the Daybreak Parkway TRAX station. I'm guessing this will be constructed on the empty expanse of land that lies between the station and the current apartment complex to the east.

But my goodness, is that somewhere I'd love to live. Beautiful structure. Daybreak overall is just brilliant.

Deer Valley brewing up a gondola route

The resort sees Brew Pub lot as the best possibility
Jay Hamburger - THE PARK RECORDparkrecord.com

http://www.parkrecord.com/ci_2274990...ce=most_viewed

Deer Valley Resort is focused on the Brew Pub parking lot as the Main Street terminal if a slopes-to-shops gondola is built someday, saying that no other location is under consideration on the Main Street side of a gondola.

The City Hall-owned Brew Pub lot has been seen as the most likely option for a terminal in the months since Deer Valley publicized its interest in building a gondola in mid-2012...

...Tourism boosters, meanwhile, would be able to tout Park City as a ski destination with a downtown linked to two mountain resorts, pairing the Deer Valley gondola with Park City Mountain Resort's Town Lift.

Deer Valley has said a gondola could be opened for the 2014-2015 ski season, at the earliest. If the Brew Pub lot is selected as a terminal location, a sale or an agreement between City Hall and Deer Valley will be required...

The situation with hollywood connection is a bit different. It is not just a movie theater but also is a fun center... Perhaps the theater could be converted to bowling or somthing.

And the bit about movie theaters not having that long of a lifespan is not nessiserily true. It bepends on the location and operator. The dollar theater that Cinnemark operates at Valley Fair has had a pretty long life span and still has 3 years to go.

The Century on 3300 is another great example.. The original building had a tremendous life span.. And when it got to old they didnt just leave.. They rebuilt... And I expect that theater to be there for a long time to come.. Hopfully geting a makeover like its twin in aurora Co did.

Its also a myth that 2 movie theaters cant operate so close together.. There is a cinemark and the last remaining AMC Cineplex Odian (in utah) that have operated right next door to eachother at Laton Hills Mall for years... And there will be a new theater built within a 2-4 block radiaus of Gateway within the next few years... I dont think that will stop eveyone from going to gatewsy (unless they continue to not maintain or update anything.. Like has been the case for the past sevel years).

My wife and I went to the new Megaplex at Valley Fair the other day for the first time. Overall it's a nice theater but for me the seats there seem to be a bit lower to the ground and not as wide as I'm used to. Did anybody else notice this too or I'm a just getting fatter?

The Movies 10 in SugarHouse has been around since I was a kid. I think that was built in the early 90s.

My wife has the opposite complaint about the new Megaplex in Centerville. She says that the seats are too high off the ground so her feet don't touch the ground. By the end of a long movie the blood circulation in her legs is cut off

Rio Tinto Stadium will be a host for a World Cup Qualifier game this year! USA v. Honduras on June 18. Big deal for us soccer fans in the Wasatch Front!

In addition to the World Cup Qualifier, Rio Tinto will also host 2 Gold Cup matches in July: USA v. Cub and Costa Rica v. belize.

Sandy City really needs to think about building a parking garage next to Rio Tinto with all the events they host. Also a hotel across the street wouldn't be a bad idea also.

They should have built the stadium downtown where the infrastructure already existed.

Absolutely.

I love the stadium. I love going to RSL games. But it was placed in an incredibly poor location. Best example of the worst planning for any stadium. It could have been a boon for restaurants and bars and hotels and TRAX, FrontRunner--all of which are already downtown. Instead, it's in a wasteland, and it continues to be a wasteland.

Fools.

There is a lot of land around the stadium that could be developed. RSL does own the property to the north of the stadium. Prehaps in time it will get developed.

I belive that they looked at fitting a soccer stadium onto a downtown block and it didn't work. So, SLC offered the Fair Grounds instead. Anybody know?

Fair Grounds was one site, the parking lot south of little America Hotel on Main was another. There was a lot of drama that went into who should pay and where the stadium should be built back then. Heck we are lucky to even have this stadium and RSL for that matter who came damn well close of leaving Utah. Mayor Rocky Anderson ended up backing off and allowing Sandy to have it since no other deal could be made and it was the greater good to have it at least in Sandy then to not have a team at all.
I wish it was downtown too, but again a deal needed to be reach or we would of lost the team and then that would of killed any future chance of us ever getting a MLB or NHL team here.

Commitments » Real Salt Lake owner eager for economic development around the team’s Sandy stadium
By Mike Gorrell

"We’ve had some dialogue with Dell Loy. He’s a developer by trade, so this is right up his alley. He has some great ideas," said Nick Duerksen, Sandy’s director of business and economic development.

"We’ve never given up on the vision of what can happen," he added. "Last year we reinvigorated discussion about the land around the stadium. Real has been front and center in those discussions."

This is great and all...BUT having the stadium up in Salt Lake would've have been the best choice in the long run. The suburbs like Sandy, South Jordan, WVC, Cottonwood Heights, etc., need to understand their roll in the SL Valley, and that is not to pull stadiums, ballparks, mega malls, etc., to their towns. SLC needs to be the hub of the SL Valley. If SLC really wants to grow and put themselves on the map, they need to stand up for themselves and be assertive and try to attract things like the aquarium, stadium, etc., to SLC.

Dad: "Hey kids, hop in the van, we're spending the weekend in Sandy, Utah!"
kids: "Who the hell is Sandy?"

Another perfect example is the new location of the aquarium. Why on earth would they decide to build it near a business park in Draper, Utah? It's not even located in the nice part of Draper either!!! It should have been in SLC. They really dropped the ball on that one, BIG time! You don't see the Atlanta of Denver aquariums in the suburbs.
