I think it is - pretty much right across the street. It would look incredible across from the Hall of Fame. I can't imagine we'll see this started anytime soon (or ever) but it's fun to finally see a commercial skyscraper talked about in Atlanta!

More Deets on 285 Marietta

The estimated project cost for the new building, plus an addition to a hotel, would be $150 million, he said. (The developer)Marvin’s hoping to attract tourist destinations, high-tech office tenants, plus shops.

The project is directly across from the College Football Hall of Fame site.

You are correct; this project is right across the street from the future site of the College Football Hall of Fame. Its hard to tell from this specific rendering, but it also includes street front retail and restaurant space.

Micropundit,

Where did you get that rendering? That's an older rendering. I didn't see that rendering in the AJC article either.

Aren't there already buildings there? The Hilton, Ruth's Chris, etc.

Are they just going to build this building on top of the existing infrastructure?

I think this parcel is currently a parking lot diagonally across the street from Stats.

Yes, that seems correct. The building is not directly on the park. It would be behind the Embassy Suites, on Marietta.

This is awesome I hope they can get this off the ground as soon as possible and with the college football hall of fame, the human rights museum and the multi modal terminal, downtown will be the place to be again instead of midtown Im so excited about all the project proposals going on right now

The render is from an archtectual site that featured several elevations of the 285 Marietta project. Here is another:

Great update! Nice to hear that some other stuff is in the works, although I'd honestly settle for 77 12th street breaking ground, and another surface lot biting the dust.

Thanks for laying all that out for us, simms.

Question: how would you rate the prospects for 285 Marietta ?

^^^I'm not going to make any comments on 285 Marietta. I think it's fascinating and I really sincerely hope it comes to fruition. Not that I am public or important, but I know some of those involved with that project and I can only wish them the best of luck. Seven Oaks and Legacy have some really good track records. Seven Oaks is led by Bob Voyles, who was director of development for Hines and was responsible for defining towers in Atlanta (1180 Peachtree for one), and Legacy has literally transformed that area and has a great team.

I can only urge anyone wanting to make their own predictions for the project to visit those firms' websites:

Thanks, simms!
In addition to all of those projects, construction is underway on a new building at CDC's Buford Highway campus. It will be around 10 floors, and will have a detached parking deck. They've been doing foundation work and a large crane is now on site. Here's an article about it from 2009.

Also, there's been a large crane near the southwest end of Georgia Tech's campus for a few weeks now, near Coca-Cola headquarters... any idea what that is? I've also noticed they've been doing some work on the Tech Square parking garage at 8th and Williams.

I've seen that over there also, but I haven't gone over to check it out. I've been wondering that for a little while.

You know what? I must have been confused. I mentioned in my list the CDC tower for Clifton and at 8 floors, but that was what I heard in passing from a representative at an engineering firm, and I must have heard wrong.

10 floors at the Buford campus! I'll take it

I was also reaffirmed today in casual conversation that the Novare project seems to be far along in securing a lender. Fingers crossed.

Could they mean like Dupont Circle in DC? If that's the case, that's a fine model to go after.

^Dupont Circle Village, yes. Aka some have floated the idea of putting through roads underground and following a similar model of density and planning as that area of DC. Was in a hurry as usual when I typed up.
