It's close. I saw them removing the construction hoist on the south tower. No listings with photos out yet. The tower specs are outdated too.

Looks like 1 Bloor East will be getting a Mark McEwen grocery store, as well as Nordstrom Rack...

The western tower of Harbour Plaza still has it's hoist going all the way to the top - so a little while longer

I honestly had no idea Massey was that far up already - looking very promising. I may walk down and check it out at lunch.

Hopefully it's better then Lyn Crawfords failed store Ruby Eat. Over priced ketchup and $12 baked beans.

I know people are moving into One Bloor but can it off the top 10 list yet. It still has about 5-7 floors of balcony glass to be installed and the podium isn't even ready yet.

It's close enough even if all construction were to stop. The podium retail is a separate development. See Five for the balcony glass. Could be 2019 before it's all complete.

The condo will regret that lobby in 10 years.

Wow. That's nuts. So, from Sherborne to Avenue Road (1.4km) we have :

No Frills, Longos, Bloor Street Market, Eataly (50,000 sqft store under construction), McEwen, and Whole Foods (soon to be Amazon owned), 3 Rabba's (2 on Charles, one on Church north of Bloor) and Pusateri’s. FreshCo is going into the old No Frills location on Sherborne too I think.

And, even with all that, I'll still mostly shop in Korea Town.

I'm not sure, it ties in with the theme with the entire complex so I think it will have a long shelf life. There are a ton of old 1960 apartment blocks around the city with funk lobbies that though are dated looking are still really fantastic.

This plus the BOW plus Brookfield elevate Calgay's skyline to a whole new level. Looking great so far.

To me it's our least corporate looking tower in the core. The bow is nice looking but is still very much a monolith in a windblown plaza. Bjark was right, Telus Sky is a lady among men.

And how many 500 unit towers have been built in the area?

The subway tile facade is of good quality but, it's on the dull side. Of course, the twist action has just begun. White would have stood out for these lower floors.

I don't see anything dull about the choice of colours or tiles. It's a busy design so using flashier materials would have been an unnecessary overkill when the form of this structure as a whole is it's main feature,.

Doesn't seem like that many.

There are numerous towns in Ontario with populations of 5000 that have a single grocery store struggling to get enough product turnover to make it worth while; and that's with a very low lease rate. Fairly wealthy towns like Kincardine (population 12k) has 2.

I would hazard a guess that food spending per capita in the Bloor/Yonge area is well above (triple? maybe even more) the Ontario median.

In Manhattan, Chicago, San Francisco it's actually kinda hard to find a full sized grocery store. In NY you can find a half dozen delis with a buffet table and a few basics within a stones throw but full sized grocery stores are relatively rare. A 2km walk in those cities isn't unusual within the dense wealthy residential area to find something larger than a convenience store. 7 full sized stores (plus a few mini's) within 1.5km span like that is pretty unusual.

These aren't all your standard run of the mill grocery stores. Many are boutique one offs that will attracted buyers from much farther away than a typical chain store . <<Just in case>> Retail likes to cluster. Someone driving in to shop at Eataly may see Pusateri and McEwen on the way and drop in and pick up a few things. They may pop in at this Freshco on the way home eventhough there is one closer to home.

I don't know if this commonplace or not. My few relatives that live in small town Ontario will drive once every month or two to a larger town including the fringes of the suburbia to fill their chest freezers. One thing for certain, you probably won't go every day or even every week to grocery shop in small town, rural Ontario. It's hard for a small grocer to maintain consistent inventory with customers like this and that's my relatives biggest complaint. Going to the store to stock up and finding empty shelves as someone beat them to the punch with stocking a freezer.

BTW, Did anyone see the snow this year north of Toronto?!?

Manhattan is a different beast . The high density in more consistent and covers a massive area. There are relatively few blocks with multiple condo tower developments encompassing 400+ units. Of course in Toronto these blocks are always near single family densities.
