[QUOTE=micropundit;5443441]To quote Atlanta's Mayor Reed: "the juice is worth the squeeze"

I'm shocked (pleasantly) that the 10 counties were able to reach agreement. IMO this is a huge deal for atlanta and the region. I think its passage is critical to the future of the region. I sure hope it gets the votes.

I completely agree with you. I am curious to know how many forumers support this proposal?

Also, maybe I missed it, but in the list at the bottom of the article, I only saw the one MARTA project mentioned. Did they leave out the beltline?

At any rate, I sure hope this passes. If I recall right, when MARTA last tried to extent it was pretty close to passing.

Only one MARTA project is fully-funded (Lindbergh - Emory)

Partial funding went to corridors on I-20 to Stonecrest and along GA 400 North

Beltline gets $600 million or something, which is ridiculously huge and should be enough on its own to get the support of most intowners.

Civic Center site up for redevelopment

The city of Atlanta is seeking options for its 19-acre Civic Center campus that might include redeveloping the site.

Central Atlanta Progress ,the influential group of downtown business leaders, is partnering with the city of Atlanta and has issued a request for proposals on behalf of the city.

The complex, at 395 Piedmont Ave., is owned and operated by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs within the city of Atlanta.

Replace that whole complex with a Major League Soccer/Georgia State soccer stadium. What it lacks in parking space can be remedied by being so close to an existing MARTA Station (which should be renamed to Ivan Allen MARTA Station), and those pastel condos across the street should be demolished anyway

Prospect Park gets new name and focus

Prospect Park, once a planned $750 million suburban Atlanta mixed-use center that stalled amid the Great Recession, has a new name.

Developer North American Properties ,which closed on the purchase of the halted project this summer, will now call it Avalon.

North American hopes the new moniker can build off associations with luxury and the big band music familiar to the affluent, Baby Boomer demographic that makes up a significant part of the greater north Fulton and south Forsyth market the project will target.

Ah, yes, the music that defined the boomers...big band music.

Last thing we need is some performance venue.
Why would you put in all of that when it's already in Central Park?

How is the Civic Center 'sketch'? It's the entire SoNo district that is the problem. Fortress condos and empty lots coupled with the Pine St Mission.

Last thing we need is a performance venue? I don't know why I'm even bothering engaging you, but you're obviously a moron.

Skyhouse gets tax abatement from city

The Atlanta Development Authority approved a property tax break Thursday for a 23-story apartment tower that condo developer Jim Borders plans for Midtown. The total estimated tax savings for the project called Skyhouse is $2.5 million over 10 years. For Borders and his joint venture partners at Batson-Cook Development Co., a division of Kajima USA, the tax break on the $55 million project is a crucial step toward getting lenders to greenlight the project.

Times square south project proposed

Two veteran Atlanta developers want to build a 350,000-square-foot office building in downtown’s Luckie Marietta district and make it part of a new “Times Square” environment.

Seven Oaks Co and Legacy Property Group have formed a joint venture to develop the project, known as 285 Marietta. It would be geared to creative or high-tech companies with an influential Generation Y workforce.
The project, designed by architect Cooper Carry Inc, would include a video wall on its façade — meant to evoke the feel of Times Square. It aims to complement the existing entertainment attractions already drawing people to the district, including Philips Arena, the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coke, CNN Center and coming attractions such as the College Football Hall of Fame.

Eh, while Madame Tussauds isn't high art, it certainly fits into the profile that they're trying to build in the area and if a tenant such as Tussaud's is what it takes to get a project like this (and in that area) off the ground, then I'm all for it.

Also, if you read the articles circulating, the project is called 285 Marietta, not "Times Square South".

Wow! This development would make quite an impact on that area. Isn't this location across the street roughly from the future College Football Hall of Fame? This would go a long way in making the entire Centennial Olympic Park area even more "inviting".
