Ontario Line: Gerrard Station l Metrolinx l pre-construction

Official ground-breaking ceremonies were held yesterday for the $11 Billion Ontario Line (14 new stops/stations - 16 kilometres). One of the more interesting renderings of new station images released yesterday is Gerrard Station below.

UT

The line from the Ontario Science Centre to Exhibition Place will be a mix of underground, above ground and at grade (in joint rail corridors with GO Transit trains).

Rail Deck District | ?m | ?s | Craft Dev Corp | Sweeny &Co l pre-construction

CRAFT Development Corporation, the Kingsmen Group, Fengate Asset Management and LiUNA Pension Fund have filed a formal application to the City of Toronto to build 11 towers (5,750 residential units, 11,000 square metres of retail space and a hotel) and up to 11 acres of park… above the rail corridor.
While the developers won their appeal last year at LPAT for the Moshe Safdie-designed development, Sweeny & Co and SvN Architects are now architects in charge, and many of the City’s concerns have been addressed (accessibility issues due to the grade height of the previous design, location of retail, now proposed to line Front Street etc.).

Just a bit of movement since last spring when this was approved a LPAT. The proponents recently submitted a sub-division proposal that splits the development into six blocks (small park and other future conveyances to the city, parking garage, office, residential) … described as “to facilitate separate ownership and financing”, so they likely want a partner/owner for the office component (levels 2 thru 6). Question: years ago there were plans for a fairly elaborate upgrade of North York’s streetscape. I believe Tridel was tapped for the project. Did that ever come to fruition ?

Perhaps you meant this below, which among other things, narrows Yonge from 6 to 4 lanes (not Tridel... City Council).

REimagining Yonge: this Sheppard to Finch project was adopted by city council in late December 2020 but I think it’s probably 3 or 4 years away still.

Why isn't the buffer and plantings next to the street? Why does the bike lane act as a buffer? Fake ass cycle track designed by people that don't ride bikes or give a crap about cyclist safety.

Massive design improvement on 8 Elm, and love how it cantilevers out from a smaller base above the low-rise, historic structures. It should "feel" a bit lighter from the ground by giving those structures a bit of a setback above their roofs. Also liking 60 Queen East, and good to see some taller structures continue to push the skyline a bit further east. And I've commented on this before, but the facade on Hyatt Place is turning out much better than the renderings promised, in my opinion.
