Very cool pics. Thanks for sharing. Really cool to see the progress on the Ontario line.

The Ontario Line is going to completely revolutionize transit in central Toronto so it’s incredibly exciting to see happen. It’ll arguably be the largest change in transit in the GTA since the Bloor Danforth line opened in the mid 1960’s.

Who would have thought that a Conservative government would be the ones to deliver it.

Don't think anyone would argue with that. And it's amazing how fast this went from a line on a napkin to shovels in the ground. Other than part of the Queen Street alignment, this has no commonality with the long discussed DRL.

Any news about the sheppard line 4 extension? Anything confirmed, is it happening for sure? Seems like something that should have been done already.

They've recently started consultation on that segment. They're "studying" the rail technology, though I'll eat my keyboard if they don't extend the existing subway line using existing standards.

Urban Toronto is showing rumours that they'll start construction around the next election. Whether that actually happens or not, remains to be seen.

Link here.

I'd personally prefer they make it an eastern version of the Canada Line running shorter automated trains more frequently. Instead of running 4 car trains every 5ish minutes (12tph) like they do now, they should run 2-car trains every 2.5 minutes peak (24tph) and every 4 minutes (15tph) off peak. The rolling stock itself wouldn't need to be much different though as the main requirement for automation is the signalling.

I saw construction for a subway station at Sheppard Avenue & McCowan Road as early as January 2022. It was for Scarborough subway but I thought that it’d double as the terminus of Sheppard subway extension.

I think Sheppard/McCowan will be the eastern end of the next phase of the Sheppard Subway. The Scarborough Subway design protects for Sheppard East.

The TTC can barely find the cash to replace the trains and signaling on Bloor-Danforth and the streetcar network. I can't imagine them replacing Sheppard signaling, especially since you'd need to tender for automated trains with Toronto gauge and all the other TTC stuff, but who knows.

Yard placement may also be an issue. I believe Wilson Yard is at capacity, and while standard Toronto Rockets can use that yard, you'll need to find new space if you want automated trains. That said, I haven't seen any reports of Metrolinx finding yard space for Sheppard (and none of the limited documents I've skimmed say they'll need a new yard), so I don't think they'll automate.

Thanks for the reply. They should just stick the current technology and just extend the line. That is the more pressing issue.

First big snowfall for the REM in Montréal today. 29 cm.

Some glitches but they were apparently resolved in an hour or two.

Oh right let me check how O-Train fares in today’s snow. I just love this kind of comparison~

Edit: So far so good.

It was our first big snowfall today too and we had no rail system issues whatsoever. One of the big advantages of having no rail system.

Flyover Iris Station, a small local O-Train Station replacing a Transitway "station" (glorified bus stop). Serves mostly low and some medium density, along with MUPs that connect to NCC pathways to the Ottawa River to the North and Dow's Lake to the East. Project includes the daylighting of Pinecrest Creek.

We also see Algonquin Station, the South-West terminus of the line serving Algonquin College and City services. It will be the only underground station along the Stage 2 alignment.

Hope Quebec works it out and gets there tram system at a fair price. Would be a real shame if the project doesn't go through.

It's getting very close. I still think they're doing a bit of a bait and switch where they'll miraculously announce they've solved all the issue and an opening date in late summer.

Based on the 2 reports, the earliest the problems could be resolved is June/July. Then 3 months of testing, maybe September 2024 opening?

I can't believe it's been u/c for 13 years now. I somehow lost track of the full time scale before the video reminded me.

I hope the Ontario line and the line 2 extension aren't delayed like that. Specially line two that would really suck for the people of Scarborough.
