While I do agree we need more 'dense' 'affordable' housing near the city center, I believe even if they only build luxury buildings in the city core (as is happening now), I believe that will ultimately put downward price pressures on older properties people are leaving, and that will 'trickle down' (kind of hate that phrase) to lower income properties. Of course there is an issue if a growing city cannot develop enough housing to match the influx of residents, and in that case, housing stock will go up at every price point. I kind of think that is the case here in Atlanta.

I think a big problem in Atlanta, even in areas served by Transit (Brookhaven), the NIMBY people shoot down density which will serve the purpose of increasing supply in cheaper areas. I think developers are also having issues securing financing, so that is where Fulton Co and Invest Atlanta come in to help push things along.

Agreed.

I think zoning is the main weapon the "F-U-I-got-mine" NIMBYs use to keep new people from moving to an area. So I think we have the same concerns there too.

If you honestly think a grown woman wants to be mistaken for a child and mocked on an internet message board, that says more about you than you probably want people to know.

Honestly, it says more about you that you are still talking about this topic. Let's all move on from this insignificant subject.

Icon (formerly Apogee) from 17th street. They've started putting decorative covering on the garage.

From the looks of things up up close, I don't think I'd use the word "coverage."

Love the impact this building has on that intersection and on the skyline in general, though.

I also noticed some blue and green cladding going up on the spring street frontage of AMLI Arts Center's parking deck.

I agree. Although I've been highly disappointed at how few windows are on each unit. It stands in stark contrast to the panoramic effect of next door Atlantic House, Skyhouse, or nearly any other modern highrise project. This alone is a dealbreaker for me.

Ive tried posting a few pics of midtown from GA Tech campus using flickr as outlined in the faq section but it only shows the small square box for each pic. I know others have asked this before, but didn't see posts on how to post pics. Can someone provide info on posting pics and also how do we notify someone to update the faq section as those directions dont work.

Thanks!

I haven't tried flickr. However, if you upload to Imgur, copy the image address, then post here with a lowercase (or potentially case does not matter?) letter L before the .jpg, it should resize the image to a tolerable width and height.

Georgia Tech 14th Street

Anybody have additional information regarding the GT/Howell Mill/14th Street development? I'm curious as to when we may see a rendering or get more details about the project. SJ Collins was supposed to be working with neighborhood groups and I wasn't sure if any vision had come to light yet. Potentially related, 8 condos at White Provisions are listed for sale. They don't seem to sell too well, although they are usually priced a bit high.

There should be a moratorium on naming developments "Yards." Philly has Schuylkill Yards, Nashville has Nashville Yards, and of course NYC's Hudson Yards was I believe the catalyst for this. Are there actual rail yards at Fuqua's development?

Even Baltimore Camden Yards has adjacent tracks although there's hardly a rail yard there. But yeah, there's no rail activity at or near Fuqua's project on Memorial Dr.

Edit: From Wikipedia: "Camden Yards was built on land that once served as the rail yard for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's Camden Station."
