Southcore has really beefed up The South end of Downtown Toronto, and lots more to come...

It's almost like the view of Chicago from Gary.

Ha thanks, I couldn't find a picture. It would be interesting to see another picture of the full skyline up to Yorkville.

Here we go, a better comparison of size showing the full skyline.

Nice!

Now both together... for easier comparison. The tallest towers are at a similar scale...

Overall there are a lot of similarities, but quite a few differences too. The biggest is the orientation of the bulk of the towers. In Toronto, the towers on the right are the closest to the camera, while the ones on the left get farther and farther away. Average distance is approx. 57 km. In Chicago, from this POV, it's the opposite, with the nearest towers on the left and those on the right getting farther away. Average distance is approx. 37 km.

That may be the best skyline shot i've ever seen on SSP.

They're going to have similar massing to the Martello, the building just to the left with the slanted roof (I think the slant might indicate the slanted plane of the height limit in that area). From some angles they'll have a fairly substantial effect on the skyline. From others they'll be hidden by the towers downtown.

Another tower will soon be built across the street from (i.e. to the left of) the Roy, the bare concrete tower visible in the foreground on the fast right.

Beyond this there are 4 other small projects under construction visible in the shot. This area is going to continue to change a lot over the next couple of years. 5 years ago it was ripe for development, with many holes. I wonder if 5 years from now the focus will shift to the Cogswell interchange area as Sackvillle Street gets built out?

It is crappy that it snowed again there this week though. A normal day there this time of year is +6.
Thanks for the info.
It's great seeing Halifax represent on here more often of late.

That's about a 6-7 year old picture of Chicago. A few biggies have gone up around the south end of Grant Park and a couple other places. The Sears Tower just displaces everything else in the area! 311 S.Wacker and AT&T are both over 900'!

I was waiting for somebody to let us all know how recent that Chicago pic is. I really had no idea, since I'm not familiar with the recent state of Chicago projects... what I can say with good confidence is that the Toronto pic is very recent, less than a month old. I needed to find a Chicago pic that matched the distance and angle, and that one fit the bill. It's not perfect of course, but for a quick search, I think it works out fine...

Everytime I see a skyline shot of Toronto from that Hamilton vantage point, I'm reminded of this beast shot from Flar. And its from 7 years ago too...

A lot of Chicago development is occurring away from the lakefront so it's hard to tell how old that picture is but it's a great comparison.
The biggest difference I see between the two is that Toronto has highrise clusters all over the place whereas Chicago doesn't. Things kinda drop off outside the loop.

Example. That said, it still has a pretty incredible skyline

Chicago has bad ass buildings as well. Toronto is still decades behind in that respect. Hopefully this wont turn in a city vs city debate. It was only meant as a comparison of views from Hamilton and Gary of their larger neighbours.
