Forget the Kylie Jenner/Kendall Jenner Bullshit!

Toronto is Skyscraper building fury, building so fast, so tall, and so furious that we are now just getting straight up bored with construction after a good 15 years of it.

So let's take a look at what is going on in koops pictures and you will see that nodes are now popping up and connecting previous nodes that were once to far away to be considered connected. Nodes that were once stumps are now the tallest "nodes" in the country and soon to be tallest on the continent with the exception of the tallest towers in New York and Chicago.

Here is my Sunday Morning breakdown of the four most important things happening to the Toronto skyline.

1. The financial core/financial district is getting bigger (in area, in bulk and in height)
  • Bulk coming from INDX and EY Tower - Bulking up what was already the bulkiest, biggest and tallest skyscraper culster outside of New York and Chicago
  • The financial district is adding to its footprint, towers like 88 Scott and Southcore, 1 - 7 Yonge and 81-121 Bay are pushing the financial district towards the lake south and to the east southeast. One the west Union Plaza and the Cadillac Fairview project on Front will push the district further west to connect to the Entertainment district

2. Is Yorkville really a "Node" anymore, I mean it's getting bigger and taller than anything else in the country or at least the equal a few more towers, which are coming and that is some serious bulk
  • One Bloor East and "The One" are almost asian like in height and their distance from the main skyscraper core about a mile and a half south of here
  • Coming soon, Wellesley on the Park (195 meters) and FIVE Condos (165 meters)

3. "Nodes" Connecting "Nodes" - The Most obvious example of course is College Park/Dundas Square which didn't exist a few years ago. It connects and bridges the financial district skyline to the Yorkville Skyline the two most prominent skylines in the city with the Aura Tower and it's fancy lights pinpointing the exact centre of the north and south line.
  • Coming Soon, YC Condos - 198 meters and Karma Condos 168 meters, and Dundas Square Tower

4. The Entertainment District will be a monster skyscraper node, it's happening, we just can't believe it yet.
  • the area is always changing and is the most fuild part of the skyline
  • Will also have the tallest projects in the city along with Southcore and Yorkville
  • It is drawing the downtown core to the west and there are some office towers in here as well.

Yonge and Eg was a missed opportunity. They were successful in building thousands of condo units on side streets, but the design of most of those buildings at street level is atrocious and suburban. Most of those buildings are behind a large grass setback, and they still put things like car crescents at the front. It's like they didn't learn any lessons from the towers in the park era.

The density of the infill is absurd. No room is wasted on green strips or driveways. The lost cause is the street grid which keeps the area from becoming more than just a super dense bedroom community. The commercial on Eglinton would be in a better shape if reskdential didn't have to walk 2 kilometres to go two blocks.

Yes, perhaps my estimate was a bit too ambitious...

However, the SSP database has many of these towers (all 200 metres +) listed to be completed very soon:
The One - 2019
One Yonge - 2019
M & G - 2018!!!
391 Yonge - 2019
33 Gerrard W - 2019
23 Spadina - 2019
160 Front - 2018!!
Union Centre - 2018!!
Bay-Park I - 2018!!
Holt Renfrew - 2017!!!!!!!!
80 Bloor W - 2018!!
1 Eglinton E - 2019
30 Bay - 2019
400 - 2019

Obviously, many of these target dates will not be made...

I use the completion date on proposals as a reminder for when a project has gone stale. A completion date on a proposal is complete guesswork. I don't like doing that.

Strange background there... most of the newish proposals and construction are shown, like the Bay-Park Centre, and 88 Scott, but yet it shows the 2 or 3 year old 10 York proposal (now U/C with a very different profile) back when it was square. I'm really looking forward to the LCBO lands proposal, should be close to or over 200 metres.

What are the projects east of 1 Yonge? I wasn't aware anything tall had been proposed there.
