Not to mention; it sucks biking on busy shoulder anyway. Much nicer to be on a bike lane and not have fumes and cars brush by you.

It makes no sense, and it infuriates me when I see it.
Some people may not be familiar with that network. Also, arterials are usually the most direct route, and I would much rather ride in mixed traffic than dodge pedestrians on the BC Parkway.

... and that describes pretty much every time I rode the BC Parkway - and why I'm not a fan of Multi Use Pathways. There needs to be some kind of separation (and enforcement).

Rezoning application confirms that it's just this parcel.
They have demolished a building that was looking like a sales or presentation center. Corner of Alaska St and Alpha Ave.

From the article:
Quote:
“Burnaby’s approach to market rental housing across multiple policies has been unclear. If changes in the City’s approach are occurring, it is critical that they be communicated to builders who are purchasing sites and developing proposals based on published policy,” added McMullin.

City council is expected to review the UDI’s concerns and recommendations next week.

As it turns out, developers aren't willing to build below-market at their own expense.

Oh no. How is Jean Swanson now supposed to support any project anymore?

Nope, not one bit. However all of Vancouver's City Council is a shocked Pikachu right now.

I'm not sure I follow your comment's relevance. It's Burnaby Council staff who are suggesting market rental projects should be expected to provide non-market units in market rental buildings, in Burnaby. Vancouver policy doesn't require anything like that except for in a few areas in conjunction with condo buildings.

Slight correction: Condon, Swanson, and all the other commies. Two-thirds of Council is more or less on board with MIRHPP and Rental 100.

that must be why the smith & Farrow showroom is there, it's also a Boffo development. Will help Etoile feel less orphaned.

Right at the end there's two images of 5650 Beresford so I went looking:
Quote:
A unique solution to Burnaby’s mandatory non-market rental housing requirement is being proposed by Boffo. The developer is proposed a ‘swing site’ in the Metrotown neighbourhood, at 5650 Beresford Street, to house tenants while their replacement homes are being constructed.

One-hundred per cent of residential parking stalls will have a 240 volt (Level 2) outlet for electric vehicle charging, in accordance with City of Burnaby policy.

Under Boffo’s proposal, approximately 93 purpose-built rental units would be constructed at the Beresford Site, which would initially serve as temporary housing for displaced tenants from development sites within the Metrotown Downtown Plan Area and beyond.

These ‘swing units’ would be delivered prior to or concurrently with Phase 1 of the Bassano Site, and Boffo is proposing that these units temporarily satisfy the inclusionary rental requirement for Phases 1 and 2 of the Bassano Site, as well as the inclusionary requirement for the Beresford Site.

In accordance with Burnaby’s Tenant Assistance Policy, residents displaced from other developments could be housed at the Beresford Site for an interim period, until their unit in their new development is ready. Tenants would only be responsible for the portion of the rent amount equivalent to the tenant’s rent at the time of rezoning of their respective site, with the pertinent developer paying any applicable rent top up, in accordance with the city’s Tenant Assistance Policy.

It's not empty or industrial - and google maps lists is as Concordia Court - retirement home.

That's 5550 Beresford. Their site is next to Kenneth. I think Google Maps doesn't have 5560 listed so it just switches to the closest address 5550.
