I have learned after countless mistakes that sarcasm doesn't translate well in emails, text messages, and apparently also forum posts. Though in all seriousness Mayor Dolan and his horrific moustache are not welcome as Mayor of SLC, though if I had to pick the winner in a fight between Mayor Becker and Mayor Dolan...well my money would be on Dolan! Sorry Ralph!

Speaking about the Cottonwood Mall Redevelopment I am really excited to see this project move along. I realize that there is alway a bit of "disney-fication" when a project attempts to create a faux-European village, but the simple fact that developers are even willing to think and act outside of the box is great for the metro area.

I agree with you UTPlanner, especially about thinking outside of the box. As far as disney faux, well, I think what gives anything that faux feeling is the weird scale/size on which it is built. This will be built to a full scale and I understand they will be using a lot of top quality materials on the exterior. Also, as has been pointed out by several forumers, the layout of the village itself is what so many in the planning community likes to see.

I like the Cottonwood plan, it seems very New-Urbanistic, but a bit of the Disney thing too. Oh well I think its way better than the old mall, even though I had never been in it. All malls are pretty much the same, for the most part.

A toast to historic S.L. Victorian - Mayor seeks input on best uses for west-side Fisher mansion

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,695251748,00.html

The city had been planning to sell off the remaining property until Becker stepped in and decided to lmake it the first project of his salt Lake Solutions program.

Yeah that Fisher mansion is friggin' awesome! As for Huntington Park condos, it will be nice to have more folks living in the Trolley Square area. But seriously where have all the architects gone? Their creation screams "facility" rather than "home." Anyway enough of my opinions..

I agree with you on this one Wasden. The left elevation, and since when is left and elevation anyway, looks pretty much just like Central Pointe on Main and 2200 S. That is one reason I really like the metro condos. I guess I can maybe see architects and developers not wanting to push the envelope to much the further out of the CBD they get, don't want to upset the neighbors. Don't get me wrong, I think it's awesome that they are building higher density housing in that neighborhood, especially since amenities are already in place and can handle the additional foot traffic, ie Smith Market Place, Trolley Square.

I really think the 400 S corridor between DT and 900 East between 300 and 500 S is really going to change in the next 10-20 years.

Good to hear about more condos at the huntington.

I stumbled across this today...

http://www.508southtemple.com

Joint Venture investment opportunity on exclusive South Temple in downtown Salt Lake City. Joint Venture partner sought to help bring the full value of this unique property to fruition. The development has four options which may include developing luxury residential condo space. Currently medical office space. Proformas available for existing structure along with projections for various development scenarios.

4, 6 or 12 stories... its up in the air.

please click on the pdf link below to see the different options...with renderings

Here are some more concept renderings courtesy of the architects site....

i really look forward to seeing/hearing more about this project.

I really like to see more and more TOD developments popping up along the Trax corridor. There is already the town homes slightly farther north from the Meadowbrook proposal above. 39th is going to be a nice little TOD neighborhood. I'm excited to see development starting around 33rd now too.

found this on an architects site. Its from 2006.
751 south 200 west
This is the area just south of the angelinas corner phase 1 condos. This very well could be phase 2 of the project. I'm sure though things could have changed. so, who knows...

Sorry about that. I guess after nearly two years of Grad School for planning and development I take it for granted that the people I associate with on a daily basis speak the same acronyms as I do.

a small blurb about a new development in the SLC RDA meeting coming up here on the 12th of feb...

http://www.slcrda.com/First/2008/BOD/21208agn.pdf

this would sit right across the street from the intermodal hub (salt lake grand station).

probably nothing too tall. I'd say your typical hotel 4-6 stories. but still the development in that area is very welcome.

Wow those are cool new projects. I like those renderings and I'm really hoping for the 12-story tower rendering to pass.

My vote goes for option 4 too! Also excited to hear more on the development across from the Intermodel Hub. That 600 west corridor is going to be one very hot location.

yeah I love development and all, but this is where alot of historical buildings are. It would be a shame to see all of them come down for a shorter hotel.

Well if they put it right in that location and depending on the alignment either N/S or E/W. Currently at 235 and 245 S 600 W there is a parking lot that sits directly south of Club Sound(former Bricks). It looks as if they would be able fit a nice L shape hotel into that space, something about the size of the new hotel across from pioneer park.
