It's very possible someone (probably a REIT) will see the upside in a discounted valuation and buy the brand.

That makes a lot more sense now. I read that rumor as the Phoenix location not opening, not the entire chain going belly up.

I suspect the brand is unique enough and had a strong enough customer base before the black plague that someone will pick it up and re-open after this is all over with.

That's how people work, right? One guy knows half the details and tells his friend, his friend forgets half of those details and tells his friend 1/4 of the story, that friend tells his friend 1/8 of the story...

I stopped listening to people talk about what ifs and heresy years ago. It's either happening or it isn't and until someone making the call tells me one way or another, or there's unequivocal proof, then it's just conjecture.

Weren’t you the one calling for the sky to fall in apartment building as far back as three years ago? You we’re convinced the multifamily sector was a goner. I suppose you got that info by heresay and half-truths?

You got me. I was pretty clear when I said that I've lived through the multi family housing crash in the 80's and this all looked familiar. The script flipped on me and I've since agreed that we saw an unprecedented amount of growth. From a business standpoint I'm still not willing to get involved in the saturated high-end apartment market downtown. I'm not too proud to admit what I expected to happen did not happen. People who can't let things go that happened long ago are kind of annoying, though.

So with restaurants opening at 25 capacity Monday, what will constitute as a restaurant or a bar? Can a “bar” reopen as long as they sell food? I think as long as they can get to 50 percent capacity within the next month this should go pretty well, might just be some long lines with people waiting to get in, let’s get this economy moving! With retail opening back up, does anyone have any info on the malls?

I don't know if we're going to see long lines. A whole lot of people, at least in my social circles, seem too scared to head out right away. Reduced capacity will probably match reduced demand, especially with the normal summer slump coming right after the shutdown.

Edit: Apparently, it's not just people I know who are scared (more than they should be IMO). A Washington Post poll is showing large majorities of Americans not ready to resume normal activities:

I'm with you 100%. I'm not going nowhere near the inside of a restaurant to dine-in. I'll continue supporting restaurants by take-out/curbside delivery where possible. With the latest NYT article and looking at what's happening with other states that may have opened too early, I'm staying my ass home for now and looking at the hard data then I'll make an informed decision.

I'm mixed on this. I am an absolute foodie and not being able to dine-in has been driving me mad this past month. I guess I will play it by ear. I will most likely NOT dine-in, but if I am passing a place that only has a couple of tables seated and there's a good 15' or so between patrons, I may sit down to eat and keep my hand sanitizer with me. Also if I do decide to dine-in, I would likely sit outside vs. inside and pick a table as far away from anyone else as possible with open fresh air.

I respect your individual decision, but I should clarify mine. I have no fear of on-site dining and look forward to returning to my favorite restaurants as they reopen. If “I’m with you” means only that you understand my point that fear is widespread, then, yes, we agree on that detail.

I don't consider myself an unusually at-risk person so I'm going to feel moderately comfortable going to restaurants. I don't feel like making unnecessary trips to shop but I miss Ladera and Little Miss.

Been doing take out anyway, going to the grocery store and out of everything, pumping gas is the scariest thing I do. I’m like oh shoot, how many people have pumped gas here today, so as I try to use my shirt to pump my gas feeling like Howie Mandel I’m like, this is getting ridiculous. My girlfriend is in the front lines at a nursing home who just started getting cases this past week. Thankfully she tested negative a few days ago but who knows if she is bringing it home any given day. This thing is just going to continue to spread unfortunately. I do all the right things, wear a mask and wash my hands after I touch anything. UFC is starting this weekend and if I can go to a bar to watch in the next few weeks with no other sports to watch, I definitely will go to a bar and watch and have a beer.

So just thinking but with the amount of businesses that will fail over the next few months, especially in places like New York. Do you see people wanting to start over in a place like Phoenix to want to open their restaurant concept in a place like Phoenix?
