Yah that was weird but was it really not supposed to be a goal? I don't know all the crazy rules the NHL has but according to the commentators, that was a valid penalty. The players are accountable for their actions on the ice no matter how the play goes.

Pred's goal where play continued is a simple call on ice mistake that got adjusted, exactly like a missed off-side that gets reviewed and eventually takes away a goal.

Predators got a goal and a penalty, as allowed by the rule book. They eventually had a goal allowed when there was a clear off-side. So the two are not alike at all.

The St. Louis goal called back explanation form the NHL.

NHL Senior Director of Hockey Ops Kay Whitmore comments:
"To be honest, this was one of the closest ones we've had," Whitmore said. "You're looking at a puck -- not just when it enters the zone. You're actually looking at when the skate comes off the ice and if it stays on the ice when the puck enters the zone.

"So there was two different things. It wasn't just -- we always have ones where the skate's in the air, and that's difficult enough - but this was one, where's the puck? And the puck is coming just at the split second, so the two things were going hand in hand, and you try to look at reverse angles -- some were a little bit clearer than others -- and you try to make sure that you can determine that the skate was in the air, and the linesmen both determined that that was the right call."

"Did that skate in the air, does it have a real effect on what happened after that? You can argue that all day, but the rule is, it's always been, you have to have your skate on the ice crossing the blue line. Until there's a rule change, this is the way it's going to have to be."

it's weird, but in a situation like this where there is a) absolutely no penalties or b ) penalties, for incidents that occur between the goal and the play finally being called dead you have to go with a).

I mean, just think of what somebody like myself would do with a minute of free reign with no consequences if i saw the puck go in and new it was going to get called. I'd be ripping the tape of the end of my stick (and the plastic cap) and butt ending everything that moves.

I think the problem is that were the situation reversed, somehow the league would ensure the call still went the Preds way. The Oilers have had too many goals called back this year on those 'could go either way' reviews for me to think any differently.

I go, ‘This fuckin’ kid!’ It’s kind of like why I really fell in love with Hallsy, because I was like, ‘This kid doesn’t give a shit!’ And Eberle was by his side, laughing at stuff together.”

“And that’s not to chirp Whits,” Hall said. “I mean Whits was playing on half an ankle in his last year…The forwards, myself, we didn’t do a good enough job but we didn’t have the veteran back end presence that we needed, especially when we had such young forwards.”

Whitney on Devan Dubnyk. “We had Dubnyk, who at the time would be like he is now one game and then be like an East Coast League goalie the next game. He was young and he didn’t have the confidence.”

The three then discussed Hall’s chirp of Glenn Anderson. The former Oilers great would come to Edmonton and party, Whitney said. At one party, Anderson loudly insisted that the only song allowed to be played was Lady Gaga’s Poker Face on repeat. When Hall scored his first game winner, Whitney said, the team was out at a bar drinking afterwards, and met up with Anderson, who had been drinking.

As Whitney recalled it, “He comes up and he’s saying, ‘Hi, congrats on your first game winner. You only got to get 65 more and you can tie me.’ He’s the all-time leader in game-winning goals, whatever the number was. And Hallsy goes, ‘Oh yeah, congratulations on scoring the fourth goal in a 8-3 win in 1985 57 times.”

Said Hall of the incident, “I’m pretty sure that Kevin Lowe called him and told him, ‘Hey, don’t go around the young guys any more.”

I'm liking this team more and more. Trade deadline could come and go and if the Oilers do nothing, I'm a happy camper.

Except for Ebs/Nuge/Looch can't get anything right. A trade for any of those guys may be a nice refresh, but nobody will pick up their salary. $18 million line that just can't get it going.

They still need an experienced backup goalie. They can't keep running Talbot into the ground the way they have, and they clearly don't feel LB is ready. There's buzz about Halak being available.

Oilers trade Davidson to Habs for C David Desharnais, Habs retain 20% salary.

Not sure I like this one.
Davy was likely going to be the odd man out on the expansion protection list and the team needs another C as a rental for the playoffs. But I'm sure they could have picked up someone better than a 30-year-old munchkin whose faceoff % is no better than the rest of the Oilers.
