Those pics make Philly look like the the "successful" American cities we all hear so much about. All those cranes make us look comparable to Seattle, Portland, etc.

We're much bigger and better than both of those cities

As previously mentioned, the depth of the foundation and size rivals CITC.

This has to be one of the biggest foundations for an apartment tower.

What you are seeing isn't the actual foundation for the building. The actual foundations are below that large expanse of rebar that you see, so the actual foundations are the "puddles" of concrete you can see in the photo. Due to the location of the water table, they need to build a "bathtub" to keep the underground levels from flooding. What you can see in iheartphilly's picture is the reinforcing for what is known as a "pressure raft". This raft resists the hydrostatic load from the water table and is waterproofed to keep everything dry.

The actual foundations for Comcast II are MUCH bigger than the foundations for this tower!

That has to be true, they blasted a lot of bedrock away just to make room for the parking garage -- and the point of foundations is to transfer structural loads to bedrock.

So technically this building has barely any foundations, because the garage is already sunk like three stories into the bedrock anyway.

Still a freaking deep pit, though.

This entire area is undergoing huge change- if you drive down there its crazy. The area in front of the library is now closed off and I was on 676 yesterday and I saw that they have laid new steel beams for the first replacement bridge. When that project is all done you are going to have new bridges, better sidewalks, more green space and landscaping plus the new buildings by the Mormons. All we need is for something to happen with family court. Right now its vacant and trash is collecting around its exterior. There has been NOTHING said about this project in a long time.

Oh okay, I see that they are directly connected to the tower. I though they were detached. Thanks Coolone
