I suspect that the blank elevator core facing Paciic will have a massive design on it
- McMinsen's pics show yellow, black and blue behind the balconies.
I've seem plastic wrap peeled back showing yellow and blue.

So think big mural like the Hawaiian Hilton in Honolulu (but simplified).

If you look closely there are some angled lines through some of the panels. Might see those stripes extend to the elevator core panels.

Yeah, that's what I thought too.
At first I thought they were the protective plastic peeled back, but I don't think so.

... and if you look at the protective wrap, there's wrap with blue logos and wrap with gray logos
- I think that shows the pattern.

This could be a cool feature!

I welcome any colours and patterns to liven up the mood.

Well, sorry to keep reminding all of us but Vancouver seriously has issues with public art features, lighting features, fountains that can't seem to stay maintained and running, and so on and so on........Just look at the link. I am always so very disappointed of this city and the backward, non-fwd thinking review panels that over think and change the rules of the game without MASS public opinion to sway in the right direction. They go with a few people that stick a complaint in some sort of 'figurative' suggestion or complaint box. Please have a look and comment.

Even Trump Tower lights get turned off at 10pm, so in summer, what, they are on for an hour at dusk? What a joke? And the 'iconic' Vancouver Hotel has never turned their lights back on to show off the beautiful roof lines. C'mon, these sort of things show me Vancouver does not even rank in the top 100 most beautiful cities..........let alone "Most Livable" don't get me started there.......can't afford to buy, just rent........and outrageous cost to rent......if you can find an empty apartment that is being rented out by someone who just bought to invest and launder. I'm outta here, this city needs to replace those in charge, quickly. Comment if you agree or not. Love to hear.

The City would be more livable if the Hotel Van turned their lights back on?

Don't get me wrong I think they should light up the roof again but give your head a shake.

Getting off topic, but I think another example is the very dim light level of the Telus Garden condo frames. They should at least be the same brightness as the frames on the adjacent office tower.

At least the Charleson "mural" will not require maintenance if it's just coloured panels.

Shake YOUR head a re-read, "the lights being off" was not what being a livable city I meant. It was just referring to another back-assed backward, non-forward thinking city official we have running this 'small village'. "Turn the lights off, we don't want light polution" "restrict the water, turn off all fountains, or better yet, let's not have any, and have your grass go brown" "Don't twin Lion's Gate or make a tunnel because we don't want cars in the city" "Don't build super talls in Vancouver because it will ruin the view for Mount Pleasanters" "Use sea-foam green or clear glass so Vancouver is literally the greenest city in the world by 2020" You get it now??

I've sent a couple emails to the artist to see what happened with this project but no response, and I can't find any reference to it on the city's website anymore either. The big blank wall sure is unsightly.

Also, there was supposed to be a water feature at the corner of Richards and Drake, that wasn't built either.

You literally said exactly what I read. Any amount of re-reads doesn't change the fact that the subject of the sentence was the lights being off and the predicate of the sentence was that Vancouver is not most beautiful and not most livable.

Like I said before, I don't disagree that a lot of city policies are not the most well thought out, but watering restrictions and lights being turned off have little, if anything, to do with beautiful or livable cities.

I think the furnished apartments are just in the podium of the Charleson (see pic below). I've stayed several times at Level Furnished Living's other property (on Seymour street just across from the Penthouse Cabaret) when my condo got flooded out and my insurance was paying the bill. I thought it was very nicely appointed. Marble countertops, high end appliances, air conditioning and nice amenities. They cater to a lot of people in the movie industry.

Agreed, agreed, agreed. Vancouverites are generally a self-entitled backward bunch. The city progresses slightly only because people from other places come in to contribute. However, sad to say that even those who immigrate here long enough start to become like the backward locals, forming new NIMBY groups, etc. Maybe we are too cut off from the rest of civilization for people not to realize their own follies?

I was very disappointed with the Wall rental tower when it decided to drop those LED lights, and of course, those at the West Pender condo towers too. I didn't realize that the neighbours were the ones responsible for their demise! Makes me really angry.

It all starts from the little things, but heck, those are not even little things.

If you stifle people's creativity, they eventually give up on putting efforts in all areas to make a city great. That's why we get a mediocre town. Talk is just talk, but results show best.

That is one beautiful logical gymnastic stretch there, even for your usual posts...

Not installing some lights on one tower causes people to give up on caring about all areas of their city?

How do you come up with this stuff?

People care about this city more than I've ever noticed, and it causes major problems. As much as I lament them, do you think NIMBYs rally against projects because they don't care? Do you think you see masive levels of civic engagement across the metro because people done care??

Maybe cutting a few lights off a project will send you into a spiral of despair and make you give up on Vancouver, but in all reality you probably should, because it will never be the city you want it to be. Thankfully.
