Biking news from ACHD. There are over 220 miles of on street bike lanes, rather impressive.

Now if only they'd add some to streets like Broadway, and paint them all green like some of those Downtown.

With the Spring/Summer schedules starting to trickle in, lots of minor positive changes and only a couple negative changes coming ahead for Boise in 2013.

Alaska

Boise to Portland: In April, will go from 5x daily to 6x daily flights and the most seats this route has seen since the early-mid 2000s.

Boise to Seattle: In June, will go from 8x daily to 9x daily flights, which if my math is correct is the most seats ever offered on this route by Alaska/Horizon.

Allegiant

Boise to Honolulu: Of course as we all know, nonstop Boise to Honolulu flights begin in February.

Delta

Boise to Minneapolis: In January/February the afternoon flight has been upgauged from a CRJ-900 to an Airbus A319/20 over the winter. Typically this route has been all-RJs during the winter so it's good to see a mainline upgauge. It gets even better in March as the morning flight is also upgauged from a CRJ-900 to an A319/20. It also appears this route is again going to 4x daily over the summer like last year (2x daily CRJ-900s and 2x daily A320s), which is the highest number of daily available seats ever offered on this route.

Boise to Salt Lake City: In March, this route will go from 4-5x daily to solidly 6x daily with the addition of an extra CRJ-900 flight, and in April the morning flight again will be upgauged from an A320/737-800 to a Boeing 757-200.

Southwest:

Boise to Portland: Unfortunately as reported here earlier, Southwest is discontinuing Boise to Portland, a net loss of 2x daily 737s.

United

Boise to Denver: This isn't significant at all, but United is adjusting the Airbus A319/20s on this route to Boeing 737-700/800/900s which will be a tiny seat increase.

Boise to Chicago: Unfortunately it appears that United is ditching mainline service on this route at least for the first part of 2013. The morning flight has been downgauged from an A319/20 to a CRJ-700.

US Airways:

Boise to Phoenix: As in last summer, US Airways will add a mainline flight, taking the route to 3x daily A319/20s over the summer, the highest seat count this route has seen from US.

That's all I can find so far, I'll update with any other significant changes as they come.

so if there was ONE major city you'd like to see Boise add a direct flight to, what would it be?

personally, i'd like to see a direct flight to a canadian city like vancouver so we can officially be an international airport.

I think I've asked this question before, but is Boise the largest city in the nation that doesn't have an international airport?

What is funny is I always see people checking in on my Facebook to "Boise International Airport". I always just chuckle to myself.

What's in a name?

Boise IS an International airport, just not in official name. The Airport has Customs & Border Protection services on-site, which is the primary requirement to be called "International". For whatever reason, the City has not thought big enough to call the Airport anything other than Boise Airport. It's pretty ridiculous, in my opinion, to not capitalize on the fact that it has International status.

Also, as for the city I'd most like to see added nonstop, it would be Atlanta. But, it's not very likely to happen. I'd never say anything in Canada primarily because there's not significant demand for that, and most of BOI's traffic is domestic. So, with service to a new hub, there will be even better connectivity. Since Atlanta is highly unlikely, 2nd & 3rd on the list would be American to DFW or United to IAH.

I believe this is correct. Boise could rename the airport "Boise International Airport" tomorrow if they wanted to. I really think they ought to, even if just purely from a marketing standpoint. It's probably impossible to measure but it wouldn't shock me at all if there was an intangible but real benefit driven purely by perception of being titled an international airport.

If it ever officially changes its name, does that mean that our own BoiseAirport should add in "International" to his username?

The country is FULL of airports calling themselves international but have ZERO scheduled international flights... Conversely, Detroit Wayne County Airport doesn't have "international" in its name but flies many international routes. Boise is not the largest city to lack international flights. I'd be interested in knowing what the smallest airport with regularly scheduled int'l flights is... Probably something near the border. Maybe Portland, ME??

Yes, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport or Detroit Metro for short, is a major offender! haha I cannot understand why the Airport hasn't officially replaced Metropolitan with International. It should have happened long ago. But, it probably doesn't matter as much for an airport of such significance which has had international service for so long. Same could be said for National in DC, since it has service to Canada, though I actually like Washington National..Washington International sounds (and looks) weird.

Section of Southeast Boise Greenbelt closes next week for repair

Statesman staff Idaho_Statesman

On Wednesday a section of the Greenbelt along the south side of the Boise River west of Barber Park will close for about two weeks for repair work.

Years of riverbank erosion have deteriorated the adjacent Greenbelt pathway in the area, which lies about halfway between S. Eckert Road and E. Parkcenter Boulevard. Temporary fencing and signage will mark the closure area.

so what's the deal with the local news media (statesman, press-tribune and KTVB) all having stories about a "proposed" expressway, when the thing is already under construction?

anyone know?

The portion between Chinden and I-84 isn't officially a go yet, is it? They may just be noting that this phase only takes care of the State to Chinden connection.

What I view as the important part of the expressway, Chinden to I-84 is not approved. As it is now, it is kind of a highway to nowhere.

Surprised no one posted anything about the new Allegiant Air service to Honolulu which began yesterday..seemed that was a big deal for BOI when it was announced. Hope it does well!

A buddy of mine was telling me about this at work the other day. I haven't looked up the pricing but he was telling me they have good deals on flights.
