Here's a crazy idea.. demolish them and extend this Waterloo Park another block west to San Jacinto, perhaps incorporating it into an expanded capitol grounds. Even nicer still, when the Waller Creek Greenway is complete and you can walk the entire length of it, such an western extension would effectively enable a typical parkgoer to walk all the way from the lake to the capitol or vice versa without being on landscaped paths or parkland! I feel like it's literally too obvious.

Same here. I thought this was the plan all along with the big garages going in under north Congress.

The capital complex master plan definitely addresses what they call the "San Jacinto and Trinity corridor"

http://www.tfc.state.tx.us/divisions...te_ADOPTED.pdf

Such as on page 104

Though a lot of it isn't until "full build out" whenever that occurs.

It does look like the more northern garage might could be changed out for another building on the same height (or maybe lower). It will still have the CVC above it. The more southern garage is still there though.

I’ll believe it when i see it built out.

I’d like this the best.

Yeah, I definitely like the idea of demolishing those garages and extending Waterloo Park. I do wonder how that would work, though, with it being a city park and the land being state owned. But it is a good idea. Even with an improvement to those blocks, it would kind of suck to have them divide the Capitol grounds from what is downtown's biggest park.

I was hoping they'd build some kind of observation hill in Waterloo Park to take advantage of the Capitol, but with those garages there it would be difficult since they'd still block the view of it. I would love for those garages to go away and to have something like that there.

The state doesn't collect property taxes. Local cities, counties, and school districts do. The state gets its revenue from other sources (sales taxes, federal allocation, etc.).

Appreciate the videos but I wish they'd just open the damn thing. Seems like this project has been soooo slow.

Isn't this thing supposed to open this spring? Anybody know of a tentative date? Curious to see how the constant flow works out.

Waterloo Park to open in August with new 5,000-seat downtown amphitheater

by: Billy Gates
Posted: May 3, 2021 / 06:13 AM CDT / Updated: May 3, 2021 / 06:13 AM CDT

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Downton Austin is getting a new park this summer. Waterloo Park, an 11-acre urban park that will feature hike-and-bike trails, playscapes and the Moody Amphitheater, is set to open in August. It’s between 12th and 15th streets along Red River Street.

While it’s currently under construction, the park will have “spaces that reflect the landscapes of Austin and Central Texas, including Hill Country gardens with oaks and native plantings, wetland spaces that create places for play and relaxation and expansive lawns for gathering and activities,” according to Waterloo Greenway’s website.

What is the status on the sidewalks/trails from Cesar Chavez to the Amphitheater? Has any work been done, or still the remnants of yesteryears? (got by rear wheel of my bike stolen and haven't been out on the bike for a while)

There have been some improvements to Sabine Street, but beyond that, not much that I'm aware of. Most of it is still in the planning phases.
