I could see CN going North as oppose to CP building a spur to service the site. That would require CP to come across the lake as well as over highway 11 where as CN would just need a short spur to the site from the south side of the highway where their main line is located.

i dont think money will be an issue. With just the mining sector alone investing over 50 billion in sask. over the next while, that means more tax revenue for the government and royalties.

Keep in mind that one of those interchanges (Hwy 1 and WRB) is mostly built already under a differrent budget

What budget? no money has been budgeted beyond a small amount for partial land acquisition. If you are referring to the $320m estimate put together by MMM - the assumptions assume $20-50M for interchanges and overpasses. the $320 likely doesn't include anything for systems interchanges - just a couple overpasses for train tracks and arcola south as some alignments had more train tracks to cross than others. The point of the alignment study was to compare alignments - not interchanges.

I've heard cost estimates for the entire bypass project and it is multiples of the $320M.

The construction of a six-lane parkway bridge in Saskatoon's north end will not delay plans for a north perimeter highway bridge that would carry heavy traffic around the city, according to Don McMorris, the minister responsible for highways and infrastructure.

"We are focusing on the north perimeter road," Mc-Morris said Tuesday.

The city is expected to approach the province and the federal government to help fund the $190-million parkway project and the $35-million rebuild of the Traffic Bridge. At the same time, the province will begin its plans for the perimeter highway, McMorris said.

Initial planning for that bridge will begin in June, he said.

"We know that the pressures for traffic trying to get around Saskatoon are very severe and hopefully the parkway bridge will help reduce some of that," he said.

"Having said that, we know there has to be a long-term plan that will see a perimeter road developed."

The work is going to begin soon! Can't wait to see functional planning

2 more people killed in crash at hwy's 1 and 16 juntion. When will the NDP finally build the interchange at this location they promised several years ago?!! How many more have to die there. It's one of the deadliest spots on the MB portion of the TC highway.

Agreed, was so happy when the Sask Party and Sask Ministry of Highways built an overpass at #1 and Lewvan in Regina, to many deaths there. Same with Highway 11 and Wanuskewin north of Saskatoon. That junction needs major attention.

Are you under some strange impression the Manitoba NDP cares about the safety of Manitobans?

So does every other political party that has ever been in power. Inevitable, and a fact of life in the world we live in.

Dougler306, the West Regina Bypass (overpass at Pinkie Road) - that budget of $6.7 million can't be all it is costing for this, is it? A project like this in Manitoba would cost between $15 & $25 million.

That cost is the remainder of work to be completed. The approaches are done and the steel is up. Only things left to do is put down the road base and pave, as well as, barriers on the bridge and lighting (Which a lot is already up) I do believe the initial cost was around $35M

Thanks guys, i was really worried we were getting more fucked here in Manitoba than we already are. $35 million sounds much more comparable to what an interchange would cost.

The similar Lewvan interchange up the highway was supposedly $34 million, so that makes sense.

From the Regina Construction Thread - new (for Canada) design proposed for #1 and Pilot Butte, east of Regina:

That interchange looks interesting. Also looks like an very safe option. From the video it appears it's also the cheapest. I wonder what they're thinking for the Balgonie and White City interchanges.

Here's an example of the type of interchange they're talking about.

Seems to work fairly efficiently once you get the hang of merging to the opposite side of the road on the bridge.

Here is a youtube link for an animation.

Nice, I like that design!

I've be wondering for a long time how to make a diamond work without having to wait at two sets of lights when crossing over top. Or having to do a trumpet, space is limited in lots of locations. Having traffic driving on the opposite side from normal was the answer.

But didn't really get into in too much detail about how to get the traffic to cross over. Always thought you would need some type of overpass to get to the other lane, which obviously isn't efficient.

Through traffic has to potentially wait at two sets of lights anyways, so really makes no difference.
