Yup, CR's current signage is very lame. I'm not impressed with the new 'design' inside either, but I will reserve judgment until they complete reno's on the entire casino.

I was thinking it would be cool for them to take over the Canada Post building and make a Casino Regina Resort Hotel.

You mean like the other seniors' high rises that were built more than 20 years ago? I have lived in the Centre Square neighbourhood for over 30 years, and I would like you to point out one that was recently built. No one is building in this neighbourhood, but I wish they would. The SaskPower purchase and renovation of the Financial Building on Scarth & 13th is the only bright spot, if you would call it that.

Did they update the facade?

The façade was like the one thing about the building that was up to date.

I believe this was the original facade. It was cool in a 1950s International Style sort of way. Really not a great example of the period as it has the brick up the one side and lacks cohesion in general, but I did like the yellow for some reason.

Is the namrind development on Lorne officially dead ? I see impark bought the parking lot. I thought the parking was only supposed to be temporary?

Hooray! More not shovelled sidewalks in the winter.

I have attached a link to the story from Macleans's magazine, if you want to read about Pioneer's demise.

After Pioneer Trust, it became the Canada Trust Building, and then Conexus. I'm curious if an illuminated HSBC logo will go on top of this building.

https://archive.macleans.ca/article/...ow-for-pioneer

As for the signage removed from the top of Hill Tower I, I have a feeling that they will be replacing it with glass to match the rest of the building. Harvard has changed those signs a few times as well, from Continental Bank, to Lloyd's Bank, to HSBC, and now, nothing. The three openings were designed to be the size of six of the glass panels (per sign) used on the towers, in case they decided to no longer have signs up there, as is now the case. They have painted the steelwork dark gray just so the absence of any signs isn't as noticeable on first glance, or from a distance.
That is going way back in time! I was not in the workforce at the time but I later worked with a few people who were involved in the construction. If the signage did get installed it couldn't have been on very long. The project was scheduled for completion in summer of 1985 so they were probably at 80% by February.
If I recall the story correctly the project didn't really skip a beat, Canada Trust was brought in as the new tenant within weeks of Pioneer's demise...and the retail portion was in operation on the main floor by early 86...possibly sooner.

Yeah, the signage was not up for very long before Pioneer Trust went bankrupt. In fact, IIRC, PT hadn't even opened yet in the new building before their sign came down.

Not dead at all but going to be different from the original proposal. Regardless, will be nice to get rid of a dead zone along 11th and will go a long way in connecting West 11th commercial to the rest of downtown

It was, IMO, not a bad looking building for its time. I'm not sure when it was built (my guess is early 60's?), but there weren't too many 'modern office towers' in the city in the mid 1960's, as there would have only been The McCallum Hill Building (hardly a 'modern' building), the Motherwell Building (now condos on Victoria & Rose) and the new SaskPower Building and Avord Towers. I think the former CIBC Building on Hamilton & 12th was built in the late 60's, and I know the TD Bank Building went up in 1974/75. I think the SaskTel Building on the corner of Albert Street & College Avenue (now called Cooper Place) went up in the mid-to-late 60's as well.

I remember as a little kid, going to the outdoor Observation Deck on the 13th Floor of the SaskPower building. I thought the Financial Building looked pretty cool. The addition (to south side) and exterior re-clad (green glass curtain walls) of the Financial Building, actually turned out pretty good, but I miss the International style and the yellow panels, of the original building.

The Namerind development was never real to begin with!

Also, just to be clear, Impark is simply a manager. They never buy anything.

So is this all going to be a single facility? The article is very light on details, and makes it seem like it is both multiple facilities and one facility at the same time. 600 would be huge for one building.

Sounds like a replacement for Pioneer Village. PV had around 400 beds at its peak. I'm sure there's a few other nursing homes (ie: Extendicares) that have proven to be less-than-acceptable during covid.

Where would a good location be for it? The former Taylor Field land?

This significant project to add new beds will meet their needs and ensure safe and healthy environments for both residents and staff.”

The Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement is working with the Ministry of Health and the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) on planning and design for the facility. The SHA will own and operate it.

Timelines for construction will be confirmed later this year.

Replacing and repairing long-term care beds in Regina is part of the province’s $2 billion stimulus plan for economic pandemic recovery.
