^I don't get why everyone dislikes that one so much. It's not bad.

The one in LA (Little Tokyo), looks much better, intriguing, etc. Keep in mind, a lot of those awards are simply marketing and politics.

Honestly I don't think architecture matters that much. Japan has lots of crappy, value-engineered architecture but its still the king of all things urban. Function over form.

I can't think of a new building downtown that ended up with a sidewalk this narrow. Then they have a utility box, a light pole, and a handicap ramp one after the other on the south end of the building which makes the sidewalk only two people wide. Terrible.

This is temporary. That block is going to be the first with the new permanent sidewalks that Bringing Back Broadway always talks about.

I sort of follow the news in the historic core, and the changes along Broadway form a far. I remember reading somewhere last year that the building 601 S. Broadway at 6th with Zuckor's façade home now of the gold center was going to be renovated since then information on the project seems to have vanished until I see sidewalk scaffolding and general work look to the site on google. It never showed up on the DTLA development map I figured I was dreaming. If anyone has information about 601 S. Broadway please post when convenient. thanks

The scaffolding is going up for the renovation of the former YMCA Building at 11th Street and Broadway to become the Proper Hotel DTLA.
This will certainly solidify the link the Broadway corridor to the rapidly expanding South park!

Cool. The Hoxton Hotel renovation across the street from this is going strong. With Ace, Proper, and Hoxton all within a little over a block this will be a happening spot. Then add in the two Palmer buildings and it's on fire. So much going on in the area from Olympic to Pico and Broadway to Flower.

A small update. I wasn't in town for very long and shot what I could.

A pair of 24 story towers will rise here.

They've cleaned up the edges of the Broadway trade center. The rooftop itself still needs a bit of work.

And now the collection of Broadway Palace. It's a welcomed addition. The lights are a nice touch.

The scale of the 10 story section isn't given justice in the photos. It's rather imposing. It changes the atmosphere around Ace entirely. It makes that part of town seem a lot more closed in and dense, I love it.

Nice update Mojeda. You too King Kill'em.

Mojeda I'm with you on Palmers buildings. He couldn't have done much better. They really fit in well.

Looking at King Kill'em's update I'm struck what the 7 stories add. They aren't popular here but they really make a significant contribution to density.

Great updates, guys!

I think Palmer's building looks horrendous. Better than his trademark faux-Tuscan abominations, but that's not saying much.

Yah. Right after the Grand Avenue project, and the street car.

Do you guys think Olympic and house will ever be brought back from the dead?? A tall Art Deco or classical tower with a spire or ornamented dome top?? Good quality obviously.. and if not brought back, something similar or better proposed??
