There is no reason not to make all of Vanderbilt a park.

At one time, that was the plan, but they slowly moved away from that after opposition.

This is the plaza we'll be getting..

They'll be creating other open and shared public plazas on some of the surrounding streets...

Hopefully, the park will cover all of Vanderbilt eventually. That street plays no key role in the traffic patterns. Similarly, the viaduct up Park in the 30s and around GCT should be made into greenspace (e.g., a green median covering the viaduct) and a "high-line" around GCT.

I’ve always wanted that. Maybe when more towers are built they will consider it.

Frankly, that viaduct is a terrorist threat waiting to happen. Anyone can drive up around GCT on the viaduct; therefore, a small truck filled with plastic explosives could easily level GCT and the MetLife Building. Even if the bozos who run NY were against providing pedestrian space for people, this useless viaduct poses a massive possible hazard.

You folks have got to stop being afraid of everything. The entire island of Manhattan is in a vulnerable spot. Traffic flows around every building. There are rail tunnels underneath buildings, and various pedestrian networks. We can't close every street, shut every subway station because someone "might" think of attacking. New York will always be a very open city, with a lot coming and going. The city can't exists in a constant state of fear and panic. If so, you wouldn't see towers like 1 Vanderbilt rising in the first place.

I'm not afraid....its just sadly if something happens/attempted like that to Hudson Yards I wouldn't be at all surprised.

I don't know how or why you think something like that is going to happen at the Hudson Yards. It's just irrational fear. That complex is structurally sound anyway.
I don't see anybody fearmongering about the glass towers on Park Avenue that stand above the rails, and probably are less structurally protected. PATH trains constantly run beneath the Freedom Tower.

The old Phillip Morris HQ, right across 42nd from One Vanderbilt, is definitely gonna get redeveloped under the new zoning.

Ridiculous waste of space right now. You can see the absurdity in the first pic two posts ago. Would be the perfect spot for a new office supertall, with direct Grand Central access.

I hope so. I think that it's hideous, but many find it to be an important bit of architecture. I think that it was built in 1982.
