Buckingham University Summer School
In LONDON, 1st – 19th JULY 2019
Workshops on Traditional Architecture & Urbanism
Tools & Techniques for Traditional Architecture & Urbanism in the 21st Century
The 2019 University of Buckingham Summer School is organized into three distinct parts
and is designed to give a comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge of Classical
Architecture and Traditional Urbanism.
In summary the Summer School kicks off with a series of lectures, readings and workshops
combined with walking and sketching tours around significant areas of London. The second
week focuses on drawing and rendering with tutorials in design incorporating short
exercises in composition. The concluding week will be an intense one design week
‘Charrette’ dealing with a small infill project in a popular area of London.
The Summer School will focus on London and the UK but is intended to transcend the local
context and draw a wider international perspective exploring the presence, relevance and
resilience of Classical Architecture and Traditional Urbanism in the 21st century.
The School will feature lectures, seminars and tutorials from John Simpson, Clive Aslet,
Robert Adam, Demetri Porphyrios, Mark Wilson Jones, Alireza Sagharchi, Lucien Steil,
Craig Hamilton, Francis Terry and other leading contemporary practitioners and
academics.
