the Alta Vida Tower (Ashton) will have an arching roof over the smaller 37th floor wich would bring it to its final height.
WOW good find. It would be very interesting indeed. Tho making another waterpark within somewhat same area. what is with this guy? Why waterparks. why not like worlds largest wavepool or something kidding but seriously a theme park would actually rub off as good in that area. we all know cedar park is booming. alot is happening over there. and its off a few toll roads as well. The City would make Large profit (if it had a major signer[like six flags])
I think that if any amusement park develops in the Austin area it should be ran by Busch Parks, they would really pay respect to the land and community. Their park in Williamsburg VA has been named "most beautiful park" for 18 years in a row now. I would be very very disappointed to see Six Flags or Cedar Fair develop anything down here.
Yeah, there would need to be something that would be different from Six Flags' usual format to stay alive. Six Flags' Houston park closed because they weren't making enough profit to be able to stay at that site, so they closed it. I would hate to see the same thing happen in Austin a few years later. It would need to be something very different in Texas to keep the visitors coming.

Let’s think real big. A wild concept for amusement might be having rollercoasters over and around a downtown. Imagine a whole series looping, banking and going through buildings. And a water flume spiraling down a building. We could have a haunted skyscraper on the 40th floor with glass floors outside the building frame. All free to downtown residence of course.
Ok, my dork meter is about to go through the roof, but Im a member of ACE (American Coaster Enthusiests).
I can tell you a few things.
1) Rumors of Disney buying giant parcels of land under secret names pop up all over the country constantly. Virginia is the most prevelant one, most of them are bunk.
2) Texas' best bet at a Bush Gardens is probably San Antonio. They own a TON of land around Sea World (if anyone remember, prior to Bush buying Sea World, it was a much larger park). There were strong rumors of this happening before Six Flags bought Fiesta Texas. At this point, I just dont see another park going up in San Antonio.
3) Astroworld was shut down becuse Six Flags has a major capital problem. Their stock price is in the duldrums. They are in an industry that demands they spend hundreds of millions on new rides for their existing parks.. Astroworld was in a position where they couldnt expand. The park had become a dumping ground for old discarded rides from other Six Flags parks.. they got an offer they couldnt refuse and took it. I was pretty pissed because they had a ton of really good Schwarzkopf designed rollercoasters.. one of my favorite designers.
Anyway, in my opinion now that Six Flags New Orleans is basically never going to reopen, I think Houston will get a theme park at some point soon. Its a giant city, someone will build something.
I simply don't want anymore major attractions in Austin for a while. Not until we have resources and services that can support the population boom. After that's handled, sure let's go all out. I'd rather want a water park.
I'm a coaster nut too...Cedar Point is the best in the world. The Millenium Force is a near-perfect coaster.
With regard to Austin, there's probably almost no chance of a park being built. Fiesta Texas, Sea World, and Schlitterbahn are too close. San Antonio is more tourist-oriented, and no one is going to put out the massive dollars needed to build another one so close.
Thats a good idea lets have a mega coaster it will start atop the stacy building droping 830 feet a a 90 angle to at near terminal velocity to a loop that tops frost bank then down to a number of corkscrews and zero g hills that one tops maybe the 23 story building on 6th street it does have a round top then when the ride cant get any better it does. A power uphill launch to the top of 360 banking around the spire to a cobra roll passing by the top of the spring and then back through the green area around the buildings up and down ending around the Altivida where it will be raised back via a elevator device to the starting point atop the stacy building. Or who need cedar point we can have cedar park. Seriously guys if Austin is going to be mentioned with other metro areas we need something whether it is a amusement park or pro team. Anyone name a city close to Austins size that has none of that. Vegas does not count.
Well Six Flags is rebuilding their park at New Orleans. and as for astroworld. i dont see anything exciting in its future.
So its official? Six Flags returning to New Orleans? It seemed unanimous among everyone I spoke with that its going the way of Astroworld. If thats the case, then I'm thrilled. New Orleans needs this...especially the city's eastside. Visited last weekend, and New Oreleans East is a mess. It could use an economic shot in the arm, even in the form of a theme park.

Six Flags isnt rebuilding it. Six Flags is trying everything they can to break their lease with the city.
There is a third party that is proposing to take the lease over and rebuild the park, which would be great.. hopefully they have enough capital to do it right.
Altavida is certainly starting to poke well above 100 Congress now.
Also, take a look at the picture of Austonian, including the center pedestal. They are busily forming up the center shear wall, a floor and a half above the garage pedestal. This should finally lay to rest the thought that they'll be building only the base and then quitting.
Disney will build a location for the 3rd coast in Texas; since west (California) and east (Florida) coasts already have one. And I'm pretty sure they won't ever build further up north as it's stays too cold for most of the year.
I find it ironic that 100 Congress, Alta Vida, and the Austonian are so close together. Considering all the other low-rise (and empty/parking) blocks downtown. I guess in 50 years it won't look so cluttered as there will probably be another 50 high rises built all around downtown.

Don't worry soon we will be overtaken by the new Axis powers made up of Afghanistan, Iran and North Korea. You will be a slave in a new society where the only highrise built will be the Tower of Doom!

Hopefully it won't take that long. If the Marriott and Westin hotels actually get built, that will be 2 more tall-ish buildings on adjacent blocks.
