the Birmingham Bowl is officially sold out.

forecast looks pretty good until afternoon. it rained a little around 9:00. maybe it will hold off.

Stadium cam is still up: Protective Stadium

nice crowd flowing through the gates an hour before kickoff.

Pretty much every surface within 5 blocks (even more if you look nearer the city center) is blanketed with cars. I don't think I've ever been happier to see a bunch of Auburn fans in my life.

Game went final and fans are all walking back to their cars. Traffic is heavy on the streets, but the interstates and expressway seem to be handling it well. I've been wondering what a sold out game would look like traffic wise; so far so good.

these apartments appear to be complete in avondale... looks like the name is Axel Row?

also think they did a good job on this 8-unit infill project called Avondwell, which is right behind the one above:

Interesting tibit...

When people from around the globe arrive this summer, they land at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, which has undergone more than $7 million worth of improvements.

Improvements at the airport are manifold. For example, all passenger loading bridges will be refreshed with new carpeting and fresh paint; all terminal seating will be replaced to optimize passenger comfort and capacity; new Wi-Fi and cell phone transmitters will be installed throughout the terminal to increase cellular and wireless ranges; and all restrooms are being renovated.

Mathieu is paying attention to details large and small to “make sure everything is the way it should be.”

“[There will be] new striping on the roadways, new lighting for the crosswalks. The garage is going to have new LED lighting system all around it so we can light it up in recognition of whatever the event is—whether it’s pink, whether it’s blue, in fact, in full World Games. [The garage] will be illuminated all around with the different colors of the International World Games Association,” the airport CEO said.

so glad to finally get this car dealership / lot off 20th Street. unfortunately the lease is not up for 2 years (plus the new Stivers location needs to be built out at the Palisades):

"... the project's value is estimated to exceed $200 million."

In response to a post from a few months ago... I still poke my head in here every once in a while; I'm interested in seeing what's going on as well as photos of the developments. I get to see stuff infrequently myself, so having this resource is quite nice.

this isn't a new announcement, but the first time i think i had seen this rendering. nothing special here... typical 5-story wood-framed development we're seeing all over. at least the word "luxury" isn't mentioned in the article? haha.

as i mentioned in a previous photo update post, the land for this has already been cleared:

New $41M multifamily apartment project, The Tracks, coming to Rotary Trail

"Orchestra Partners has said that they have secured an exciting anchor tenant for the project and will be announcing it soon."

I like how things are looking under the interstate. Thanks for the pics, Tim!

Drove by the plaza that's supposed to include a fountain this morning. The design doesn't look terribly inspiring, but I guess I'll try not to judge until it's complete.

THE METROPOLITAN

i was really excited when this project was first announced (seems like 5 years ago now). great location and potential. however, after seeing it so often in person and after the whole fire debacle... it's just kind of meh now. the corner of 29th / 7th looks OK, but the rest is just typical of these lately. not much style or substance. and a missed opportunity in my opinion to not put some retail / restaurant space on the ground floor, which lakeview could easily absorb.
