There are Front Runner stations planned for Draper on Bangeter Highway, as well as South Towne and Murray. Heres a link to the PDF map from UTA:

http://rideuta.com/files/ProposedStations051407.pdf

I like that there will be a Front Runner/TRAX transfer point in Murray, but I feel like there needs to be something similar near the south end of Salt Lake County. As a lay individual (who knows nothing of the viability studdies on TRAX corridors) I am surprised that they found that a critical mass of Draper-ites will use TRAX. I just wonder if they ever did a study on a Southern transfer point, and weather that would serve more riders than an obscure spur into low-density-Hummer-loving Draper. Its already like 45 minutes to downtown from 10000 South, but then again there were armies of critics who said Utahns would never ride TRAX period. If there was some way of connecting the Draper spur with the Bangeter Front Runner station, that might be the cake and eat it too scenario.

Airline officials upbeat about future in SLC, House speaker says

http://www.sltrib.com/business/ci_8105427

"I actually left feeling very good that if there is a merger they want to talk very proactively about airport expansion," Curtis said at the initial meeting of the Air Transportation Promotion Alliance, which is to be co-chaired by Becker and Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr...

...One thing Delta has said publicly that it wants is to direct airport passenger fees into airport enhancements, and not into a light-rail line that is proposed to access the airport. City officials have pledged $35 million toward that Utah Transit Authority project and are looking for revenue.
Salt Lake Chamber President Lane Beattie said the city shouldn't let an investment of a mere $35 million block a deal that could lead to a $2 billion airport overhaul complete with the enhanced international service that Northwest could bring to Delta.

Very exciting! I really hope SLC keeps it's hub and that the new airport becomes a reality.

This will definitely be the big shot in the arm for the major expansion, which was planned before 9-11 hit.

I had to tell someone that would understand or might get as excited about this as me. I have made some initial massing models for another development in SLC. While I won't give any details regarding where I plan to do this (wouldn't want my idea to get stolen) here are some renderings from a project near me that is my basic inspiration for my SLC project.

This development is called the Avenues district and it on the outer edge of the CBD here in Cleveland.

The elevations differ in design and height depending on what the massing of the street they are facing is.

very cool future mayor. I could see it working well along 2nd or 3rd east, or 6th or 7th S, just on the periphery of DT. It wouldn't be that bad of infill right in the heart of DT for that matter. I hope you can get something like this going asap.

I think it looks great. It's nice to see a building that is multi-faceted. It costs more than a plain, flat front but in the end the valuation of the leased space or of the price of a condiminium skyrockets.

Thinking of a great spot downtown two spots came to mind. One would be directly east of the Triad Center. On the corner of North Temple and 300 West. I think the two developments are similar in scope and height.

Second, I would love to see the Sears downtown disappear and see some sort of mixed-use development take its place. This is such a high visibility location and the neighborhood could certainly use the help.

Just a thought or two.

Very, Very Nice Future Mayor, I like everything about it. This would fit well anywhere in the downtown area. Many areas would actually be getting a shot in the arm. Among the many locations, two places that come to mind are the 300 West corridor, maybe even along with Marmalade and Newport Citiview. Your project along with those two would make that street quite the hot spot to live. I also was thinking the same area as UTPlanner, in the southern portion of downtown. Anyway, I would imagine you have several great spots picked out already. Keep us informed.

Great site for something like this--great idea UTPlanner!

I am working on it with all my might, after my course work of course. I honestly hope to announce the first project by this time next year and I would hope to announce the 2nd project, hopefully the one discussed above within 18 months to 2 years after that. I know that's an aggressive time table but I think the market can handle absorb it.

I have one site in mind were the above renderings would simply be phase one, phase two would add about the same amount to the project. DAMN I'm excited to get started.

Kamas, Oakley, Woodland and Francis the new economic jewels of Salt Lake's Eastern Metro

Small towns absorb Park City's population constraints

Commerce CRG predicts expansion into the east section of Summit COunty to continue at a consistent rate during the next several years. Kamas is developing new business parks, where Jan's Sports recently opened a 17,000-square-foot distribution center at the Kamas Business Commons. (Scott Sine/Park Record)

Wow, I'm so glad they caught this conflict of interest before it was too late. That's all we need is for our Broadway style theater to go to Sandy. I really hope an earthquake hits Sandy, and the earth swallows it whole.

Well, I certainly wouldn't want the earth to swallow Sandy. I'm happy that the Salt Lake Valley is economically healthy. As a planner, I'm not 100% happy with the way Sandy designed their new "downtown," but that is one reason I generally avoid Sandy. (The biggest reason is the constant traffic which is an end-product of poor design.)

What really needs to happen is instead of Salt Lake City living in a world of envy they need to step up to the plate and acquire an economic development specialist that can go out in the world and draw these businesses into the city. Randy Sant had done amazing things in Sandy City. SLC has a new administration, Mayor Becker needs to make this a priority!

an older article, but definatly something that i think we overlooked....

Video Vern's site sold

HOLLADAY - The 1.6-acre city-owned lot at the corner of Holladay Boulevard and Murray-Holladay road has sat vacant for well over a year.
Formerly dominated by the hulking Video Vern's structure, the city had it demolished to make way for a new road configuration and a mixed-use redevelopment project.
A purchase agreement, approved by the city's Redevelopment Agency board Thursday, signals that the stalled project could once again be moving forward.
In a unanimous vote, council members agreed to sell the land to Cowboy Partners for $1.3 million.
Phase 1, consisting of three-story structures featuring small retail bays, lofts and offices, will soon be built on the property, according to Cowboy Partners developer Dan Lofgren.
"We're hoping to incorporate local businesses into the project and keep them intact," said Councilman Grant Orton on Thursday afternoon. "We like our merchants and want them to stay."
In other action Thursday, the City Council tweaked the Cottonwood Mall Site Development Master Plan approved last month to allow structures taller than 90 feet if approved by the Planning Commission and City Council.

could be interesting to see if they act on that....

Utah commercial real estate soars

http://www.deseretnews.com/business/1,5160,,00.html

The report said the Salt Lake area in 2007 saw the highest level of new construction in roughly 10 years, with almost all of the new commercial construction in the suburban market

Definately a massive amount of great info. on that site Viper, I have meant a couple of times with the Holladay City planning people, and have been extremely impressed with their level of committment to the area. They are trying to be sticklers when it comes to important details such as signage, etc.
I think this Cottonwood Project is going to set a high standard.

I agree Delts. The Cottonwood project could really turn out to be a great place to go when it is finished. I am excited to see it take shape. I really like that it will have that European feel to it. I love Europe and to have a little feel of it here in the valley will be a wonderful addition.

IMO, there is definately nothing wrong with the Village type layout and feel of the Cottonwood project. I am anxious to see more of this style of layout throughout the Metro.
