People here like to break glass I find. Hard-pressed not to see some doors or windows boarded up after a weekend downtown. Shows the mentality of some of the locals. I suggest incarceration in a 5-inch thick glass jail. If they can break through it, they can go free.

Looks like there was a very small, sharply-defined point of impact.

Or, you know, don't put glass on the sidewalk?

A big ass chunky white steel awning has been erected on the Robson side of the William Farrell Building.
Hard to see because of the hoardings.

Looks like the greenwall is complete
- plants are in and the vents will remain uncovered.

The granite plaque declaring the building at Robson & Seymour the "William Farrell Building" has been removed
and replaced with a new more modern looking plaque declaring the building the "Avigilon Building" and naming its founder.

Gone:

That's really disappointing.

this is probably why it was renamed to something dumb and ignores the history of someone important to BC.

Avigilon to pay $42 million for Telus building

Quote:
Vancouver-based tech company expected to move employees into new global headquarters by 2016
By Tyler Orton | Feb. 27, 2015

The 135,000-square-foot building, located at the corner of Robson and Seymour streets, is nine-storeys high and sits adjacent to the $750-million Telus Garden development.

They cut a large window into the alley side wall of the former William Farrell Building.
Should flood the retail space with more light.

Well he wasn't important enough to stick a plaque on there until 2007 so no big loss.

It bore his name before the 2007 renovation too.
I think there was a plaque or sign somewhere.
The 2007 renovation stripped the original brick and limestone facade off the building.

The second skin also had a colour changing fibre-optic light feature that fell into disrepair within a year.

Call me crazy. I prefer the old BCTel brick finish. More character than the bland and cold glass façade.

Another example of how this city constantly fails to recognize and protect heritage buildings.

The two most short-lived elements in the development industry have to be ornamental lighting and landscape architecture.

Ornamental lighting seems only to survive on true landmarks (e.g. Empire State), and yet locally as noted the Hotel Vancouver seems to have gone dark for some time.

I think the main problem with the old façade was the limestone at the base, which didn't allow for retail.

Even the original windows that were retained during the 2007 renovation have recently been replaced by Avigilon - and the new windows do not seem to fit properly - there's excess trim that has been added to cover the gaps.
