Austin 5 years ago. Rainey Street looks almost empty compared to now.

The lighting on this one seems like the start of a late-80s / early-90s sitcom.

I do miss the old Rainey and the vibe it had. It's such a different space now. Not as vibrant as before. Hopefully once all the new high rises are done and more bars/restaurants are back that it will be as "lit". Had such a fun time at Bungalow and Container when they were here

I agree, I wish that Rainey had kept more of its charm and small-city feel. Would not want to sacrifice the skyscrapers we got, but would have maybe preferred them to be located in a different part of the city.

Just cap 35 and create the next Rainey district on the other side. Problem solved. Talk about a walkable district.

When I first started taking pictures my color profile was warmer. At this point i switched to a colder color profile. Could be the seasons as well.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I start my work day by checking the Austin skyscraperpage. Seeing the bolded threads always gets my day off to a good start.

Many thanks to you and the rest of the regulars who keep this forum alive and vital!

Not my picture, but this angle really makes Austin look like a huge city, and several of the u/c towers haven’t even popped into view or topped-out yet.

So simple, yet so entertaining...especially if you remember all of these places from the 90s.

You can tell a lot of people are on here at work because it is always a lot quieter during holidays.

I love this - I wish the person taping had held the camera a little more steady, but I also know how hard it is to get really good video from a car that's moving in traffic (and the driver is being respectful of other drivers).

I left Austin in 1985 so this was shot about 10 years after my departure. Outside of a few skyscrapers on or near Congress, I'm surprised at how little seems to have changed in those 10 years. By contrast, it seems like every time I visit these days I'm amazed at how much things have changed...
