I was speaking more on the line with what Colemonkee was referring to up above.

Yeah the pollution levels peaked in the 70s but it was still really bad in the 80s and 90s. Hybrids, better emissions vehicles and fuel sipping cars really didn't burst onto the scene until the 2000s.

I remember one day in 96, I went to Disneyland with my family and could barely see Sleeping Beauties Castle in the center of the park from the main gate, which isn't far at all. Its not nearly as bad these days though. But we do have our moments.

Wilshire Grand. The crown continues to grow. The front of it is being added on.

Shot these today from Skyspace in horrid air quality at the worst time of day. Still am lukewarm to the building, but will wait to render a final judgement until it is completed.

First two sections go up next Wednesday and Thursday. Only up to last attachment to sail. Remaining sections come onsite the following weeks. Tentatively planned to be set over weekend of Sept 10th.

Just out of curiosity SLJR, will they be able to finish the spire before the remaining cladding is complete? Or with they have to leave off the top portion to complete the exterior? I would think it would be difficult to swing the crane around with a spire there. But maybe they'll have the glazing done by then?
Sorry for the speculation.

i don't know the cladding schedule, but it is a good question. They still have to install glass on the sail and that will be well after the spire goes up. I assume they will have to coordinate picks to clear the spire.

I was in L.A. recently and made an amateurish highway video while heading to Burbank.

The Wilshire Grand is featured in the video as I approach downtown; and at about the 1:45 and 2:50 marks there are nice clean close-up shots of it from the freeway. Excuse the longshot.

This is shaping up to be a great-looking structure. jealous

This shot is worth reposting, love how far development in DTLA has come along just in the past 3-4 years.
