Crystal City has vacancies, so Amazon might just be landing there first while their main campus is built in Arlington.

Just a minor nuance but Potomac Yards is in Alexandria.

I don't understand the angst against Crystal City. From an urban design aspect, it needs some work. But, Crystal City has access to Metro, I-395, the VRE and Reagan National. As has been stated previously, it has a vacancy rate that could immediately absorb the initial wave of workers. It's also aided by the fact that there is one landowner of the complex. Plus, Pentagon City is just to the north. That's built in shopping and dining.

If I have to give a minus to the area, it's due to the road network. I feel that it is ill equipped to handle an additional 50,000 workers. Jeff Davis (RT 1) is already a mess in the afternoon rush. Perhaps with time, this can be remediated. Also, housing is already tight in the area. Will we be able to build quick enough to accommodate the influx of new workers? Prices will rise dramatically. I have seen rental listings rise $200 over where they were a year ago. This is before the actual announcement.

Overall, I think NOVA was a great choice.

The first leak about Crystal City was likely legit. The second leaks to the WSJ about other sites are quite possible misdirection from Amazon itself to give the actual cities political cover for the subsidies they’re offering. I mean, NoVA makes sense, but the second list is made up of exactly those cities everyone ruled out a long time ago—meanwhile, the other front runners which were recently clearly still in the race have suddenly been eliminated?

So maybe I’m just being very optimistic, but I think the lack of info about Chicago doesn’t mean it’s out.

I can't believe Amazon has put another twist into this sh@tshow. Just announce the damn thing soon and get it over with.

Probably Crystal City and Austin. So they have the coasts and the sunbelt covered and f@ck the rest of the nation-just 'flyover country' in their minds anyway most likely.

*at least if they do split it, it will mitigate the negative effects somewhat like traffic and housing costs.

Now we just gotta wait for the political news to die down somewhat. Then on Thursday or Friday we'll probably know where HQ3 is going. NoVa being HQ2.

All the leaks came from Amazon. I don't believe for one second that Arlington officials would risk this deal by leaking it prematurely.

I'd rather be dead in hell than alive in Crystal City. I had to stay in CC often for work. Not being able to leave would be intolerable, especially as it sits today.

If Austin is the other site I predict lopsided internal demand.

Probably nothing, but Rahm Emanuel just announced $1.5 billion in new infrastructure investments at 3 of the proposed Amazon sites in Chicago. All three sites already had developer proposals in the works prior to the Amazon search so this is not necessarily Amazon-related but interesting none the less.

I think all of the mega cities are ruled out with that news. NYC, L.A., and Chicago would be able to absorb the influx, and wouldn't need to share the location. It would probably be a bit of a shock for D.C., and might swamp Austin, Raleigh, or Indianapolis.

And why would a company disqualify cities just because they wouldn't dominate them?

Amazon has a growing entertainment divison in LA already. I don't think LA is in the running for anything else. That's fine to me.
