Just got tickets to the Flames - Capitals game next weekend, wonder if this is the last time Ovi will be in Calgary.

I've been noticing that, like, half the stories on the front page of the Montreal Gazette website are about the Canadiens.

There was talk two off seasons ago about him signing with the Oilers, so I can see it happening.

The Canucks wouldn't mind getting out of that contract as he's a soft/streaky players although good with tip ins and junk from the side of the net if not in front. But what do the Oilers have to offer - their cupboards are literally bare.

Not that the kid has to follow the old man, but it's funny how Debrusk isn't as gritty and determined as Louie - a high bar to be sure.

This is the year the Jets could make a run and get back in the wildcard. Apart from the Avs no team is running away with anything.

It all depends on how Hellebuyck does. Until the last couple of games, he has been mediocre since his return from injury. If he plays like last year, I can see the Jets sqeaking into the playoffs.

I still remember when the Canucks shelled out $10 million for Tucker Poolman ($2.5 M/4 years), as he was a bottom pairing D-man for the Jets.

Holy league standings batman lol. The east has one team, the Rangers, below .500 (by a single point). The west has a team, the Kings, tied for a playoff spot based on points, and there is only one team in the entire league with fewer wins than them lol.

Yep. The Leafs are 12th in the league in points and don't hold even hold a playoff spot in the east. The western pacific in particular is God awful. The kind of stuff that makes league's question their playoff structure.

Yes and no.

I went to the Moncton/Chicoutimi game last night (8,800 seat sell-out), and, there were certainly Hockey Day tie-ins at the game. My eldest son coaches a U13 team in the city and I was on hand last weekend when the Stanley Cup showed up at his team practice. My son knew in advance, but kept it a secret from his team. They were pretty excited! They had a chance to get their team photo taken sprawled on the ice around the Cup, just as if they won it.

The reason why the Cup was in town last weekend and not this is because it was booked for the White House for the Orange Buffoon to have his picture taken with the Florida Panthers.

I was going to hang around the Ian Fowler Oval on the Avenir Centre plaza after the game, but, I had attended the game with my son, and he wanted to get home for a break before going back downtown with his team at 11 PM for a skate on the oval. They were pre-booked for that time as part of Hockey Day in Canada.

My son took in absolutely everyhing Hockey Day related with his team. They played a game early in the day. The team was at the Moncton/Chicoutimi game in the evening, and were back on the ice at 11 PM to serve as a backdrop for the hockey broadcast from the oval.

I think SportsNet did a great job!

The only team in the league that seems to be having a standout season is the Avalanche.

The poor Jets are 33 points back from them. And the Cannucks just suck again. If the playoffs were today, only 2 Canadian teams would make it in. Come on, Canada, let's do better! Still plenty of Hockey left.
I'm surprised at how bad the Canucks and Jets have been. The Canucks were in the second round of the playoffs two years ago, and the Jets were president's trophy winners last year.

The Oilers can have him for nothing. He's useless.

Tell me about it. This is the Flames time to suck and get some decent draft picks but the Jets and Canucks have come in and taken that spot

Well the Flames just traded Anderson so that should help their cause for better draft position.

Yep. We'll see if Coleman or Kadri gets traded. Overall a good trade for the Flames who weren't going anywhere. A defensemen + a prospect +a first round (2027) + a second round (2028) that could turn into a first round if Vegas wins the cup.
They also have Vegas' first round in 2026 (Hannifin trade). They'll be late in the first round, but still decent position.

Maybe it's karma, for all the years the Leafs did not deserve to make the playoffs back in the 80s, but qualified since they were in the very weak Norris Division from 1981-93?
