So ridiculous. It’s not a solution to all of Downtown’s ills. It’s letting people cross the street. That’s all and that’s enough.

It’ll open. You are watching the transformation. It will be a hilarious joke to look back on.
I suspect you may be right: what we are seeing are the subtle hints. At least I hope so.

It we changed to a society more focused on work from home than work from office, then all that pesky rush hour traffic will no longer be a thing and we can open up streets and reduce lanes freely!!!

Not sure if this topic has already been discussed, but how much longer of a wait are the P&M intersection lights going to have tacked on to the current wait times?

Even if it ends up that people stay home one day per week on average that’s 20% less rush hour traffic. Opens up so many options.

The information you seek is in the Transportation Study that was done.

That would be the dream but do you think the city has the balls to do that?

Winnipeg is a great city
but there is a problem about our downtown. portage and main is abandoned and crumbling down and it is closed, barricaded, inaccessible. Nothing more than a eye sore but we can change that. in 2004 city of winnipeg had a Design Competition to try to redesign portage and main there was 72
entries. the winners of Competition as by Janet Rosenburg and Corbett Cibinell’s entry Light Forest was a bold and simple solution
grounded in the history and culture of Winnipeg using the rivers as inspiration.
Their concept was further explored in a 2006 feasibility study for the City of Winnipeg.
but not happen after that.

I like it but I suspect traffic would get backed up rather quickly on Main with people making making left turns at William Stephenson Way to cross over the Provencher Bridge into St. Boniface...probably to the point that traffic in the left lane of Main would be backed up beyond Portage and Main.

We would probably need 2 left turn lanes on to William Stephenson Way from Main and a lengthy turn signal to alleviate some of those problems. I'm not sure if that would be enough.

I really like the plan oaktom, but it would need to incorporate Portage E being transit only, WT has stated that's where the transitway would come down to street level if P&M is open.

blueandgoldguy – I've hoped for years the city would make Main & William Stephenson a proper intersection, and I imagine they would in this case. It would help for SB traffic, but it would also allow the city to stop cars on EB York from going through The Forks to get to Provencher. IMO you shouldn't be able to turn left on Forks Market Road - it should be for Forks access only. Two left turn lanes onto NB Main, and cars can take William Stephenson to St. B. Also I have almost been smoke by cars/semis so many times crossing WSW at Main, because the street is insanely wide, and cars are just looking for a break in traffic to speed across. It's so dangerous. The two parking lanes should have bumpouts.
