One thing that stood out for me as someone who used to be a pretty big ball player but hasn't paid attention in years was the intentional walking of Ohtani.

The new (to me) rules to speed up the game are good and I don't think they affect the integrity of the game but this walking of Ohtani wasn't right.

He was walked five times in a row thus depriving the fans of seeing a star ply his craft and him demonstrating it. What's the point of being a superior talent if you are not allowed to show it? I can see this being a detriment to the game.

Perhaps a rule like a player cannot be intentionally walked twice in a row. Unfortunately, I realize, like his last at bat, he can be fed four balls.

BTW the coverage was fantastic, those shots of the close plays and tags, like getting Ohtani off the bag at second were fantastic. They show how difficult the umpire's job is and what a good job they normally do.

Agreed. Many times those calls are virtual toss-ups, even with review.

While a disappointing outcome, last night was baseball at its finest. I also think the Jays performed pretty well all things considered and have clearly beaten a lot of people's predictions about them (namely that they would be swept/obliterated by the Dodgers).

Its's becoming obvious that Schneider is not the manager for the Jays moving forward. He was clearly out managed by Dave Roberts. And the Jays 3B coach is incompetent to say the least.

I thought the first night in Toronto was bad. The other country shouldn't have a better arrangement than your own. Reminded me of the infamous Caribbean drum band for a Canada soccer game in Edmonton long ago.

Normally.

However, last night, the umpires were garbage. We will never know, but the Jays might have lost the game due to the umpires last night.

That strike call at the top of the 2nd inning, when it was clearly a walk, was some next level bullshit...

There were other bad calls as well, most in favor of the Dodgers. Thank god baseball has challenges now (Jays challenged a call on 3rd base and won), but can't wait for the ball strike challenge to come online next year. The umpires are a relic of the past. They need to go. Cameras can do the job better than them...

Have a video replay room, and one umpire to relay the decisions on field, when in doubt. That's all you need.

So far, the only team in this series to hand out a spanking has been the Jays. Last night was a toss-up; it sucks we lost, but it doesn't feel like an emotional loss. Tonight will be tough, hopefully not a repeat of Game 2. I'll be very happy to win just one game in LA to force them back to the Dome.

I'm still sticking to my original prediction of Toronto in 6.

Roberts is so awesome it took his team another 11 innings to beat the Jays replacements.

The O Christmas Tree guy from Vegas actually came to Hamilton a few weeks later and nailed the anthem there.

The Canadian guy from Monday is the son of Toronto city councillor Diane Saxe (fun fact, nothing else lol). I didn't like his singing at all, and didn't at all like his using it for a political statement (our home on native land).

Also widespread around social media today, the only 2 World Series games to go 18 both had country singer Brad Paisley do the US anthem. I did see a post that the other games he did the anthems at also went extras but I don't know that to be true or not.

The Canadian anthems have been roughy all playoffs IMO. This is probably old man yelling at a cloud territory, but it really bugs me when they get all fancy with the melody and notes instead of just singing it like normal. I don't mind being able to make it your own, but it always feels kind of pretentious and too showboaty when they try to be cute, but it usually (always?) fails. As a sidenote though, for some reason it doesn't bug me as much with the US anthem. Maybe that's because I just don't have the same attachment to it, but I think there's something about star spangled banner that lends itself well to being done differently, whereas Oh Canada is kind of more straightforward.

I missed that whole story as I only started watching the game around the 6th and stayed until the famous final scene as Bob would say.

Going rogue is never a good thing, it's disrespectful and makes people look foolish. Chantal Kreviazuk did her abomination not long ago and then there was Remigio Pereira formerly of The (Canadian) Tenors in 2016. The group did the right thing and fired his ass.

Totally agree, self aggrandizing runs are pretentious and goofy.

IMO the best US anthem that plays it straight (until the end) that has not been duplicated is the old Chicago Stadium singer Wayne Messmer. The ending is epic. Then of course there is the GOAT of US anthem singers Kate Smith and God Bless America.

My personal favourite O Canada was from the Calgary Olympics, slow start great finish. Not sure who I would pick as a single singer, maybe Roger Doucet. He went rogue changing the words but I'm pretty sure there wasn't a political bent to it. The cop from Ottawa Lyndon Slewidge wasn't bad

Jim Cornelison took over for Wayne Mesmer in Chicago and does an equally awesome version, paying tribute to Wayne I would suspect, probably my favourite rendition.

It was perfect timing, I was listening to Rob Lowe's "Literally" podcast today and LeAnn Rimes (country singer) was his guest. Towards the end, they talked about anthems at sporting events and Rob asked "when did the last note change?". LeAnn did her normal ending and then the "flourish-ey" ending style Rob was talking about. She says it started with Whitney Houston with her Desert Storm Super Bowl anthem and the women singers (because the men ususally don't get all showy like this) all feel they need to try to meet or exceed the last bar. This lady that sang the US anthem just now for game 4, whose name I don't recall, did a pretty good job. Great range, only a little bit of the flowery stuff and "brave" was a single note, not all over the place.
