Wasn't that due to the way they built it? Spend a long time on excavation and prep, but that their method of pouring foundations, etc. would lead to faster build times once above ground, and take less space than normally needed?

Doesn't seem like its going to make a big impact on the skyline, but DAMN, that a pretty picture.

Hopefully never. Ugly as it may be, it's a style of building downtown doesn't have much of.

I wouldn't be complaining too much if it went, though.

That building has 10-15 more years last I heard. It's a subsidized housing building and I think the vision is to build a new HACA tower with updated units on part of the land and open the rest of the parcel for market rate redevelopment, much like the plan is for some other housing projects on the east side.

I would love to see this with the Parsley Energy headquarters (300 Colorado) and 5th and Brazos, along with The Republic, if you can get those in there. Amazing how our downtown has changed and is continuing to densify. Nice photoshop btw. Scratch that, it's BADASS photoshop!

Per Google the building is over 50 years old, I would wonder if they could sell the property and use the funds to build a more modern public housing complex elsewhere, ideally keeping everyone involved relatively happy. The location is amazing, a glass cylindrical tower right there would be incredible.

305 West 5th would also be visible there poking above the Colorado Tower, between The Austonian and 6 X Guadalupe.

Ha. I like how someone goes to the trouble of Photoshopping some buildings into the skyline, and we all want more, more.

Imagine this view pulled back just enough to show all the present and proposed Rainey District towers. Amazing.

Didn't we also see a proposed tower awhile back for the parking lot across 8th from St David's? Wonder whatever happened to that one. That would also have an impact on this rendering.

From what I remember, it's still alive, but from what theATX said, there are some changes coming based on the site plan activity. As of January, they said they were planning to break ground next January, but weren't sure what they would be building there. Here's the thread on it. There are even some good renderings in there of it, but it's likely going to appear different than that.

By the way, Henry, I LOVE the labels you added. One of my pet peeves with some of the "future skyline" renderings that people do is they don't add the names of the new towers to let the viewer go read up on the details of what they're seeing.
