I'm pretty sure it was the cooler market over the last 4 years that slowed this project down. It's good to see demand is coming back. I hope more of these Alberni/Georgia Street proposals move forward. There are some great projects waiting in the wings.

The huge pool/water feature has been emptied and they look to be painting a giant mural on it and the presentation centre. Maybe part of the mural fest?

Thanks for the update!

I like how it meets the street level and it will be just tall enough to have some real presence.

I feel that somewhere between 100 to 120m is when towers generally start to feel “tall” for me.

I hope the final finish will be that dark, matte grey. It really elevates the building. The last render I saw before this appeared much lighter, and as a result, somewhat boring, especially the east elevation. This looks great!!!

I imagine those few units that jut out will be particularly in high demand with surround panoramic views of the city without the price tag of buying out an entire penthouse suite

The units in the cantilevers are called the "observatory residences" and the ones with views are basically 4400 psf

The finish will be an anodized aluminum similar to 1245 Harwood or Vancouver House; basically the ceiling cladding you see in the sales gallery's balcony ceiling

I'm not mad at it being more "industrial" or "sciencey" rather than "scultpure-like". The Kengo Kuma tower is closeby and is more scultpure-like, I like how this is more industrial

That's because it got value-engineered and lost a lot of that "pop" that the original renders were selling.

As a result they've binned quite a few of those outcropping extrusions and boxes (mainly from the East and North sides) and now one side of the tower looks more regular and "cookie-cutter" while the other is where the jazz is happening.

It's almost like a typical bog standard condo building got invaded by a ......well......"Borg" infection on one side of it.

It's rare that they ever keep much elements from the original vision that initially sold the project (See : The Quadreal Westbank Oakridge project).

To which you kinda have to give credit to the Kengo Kuma tower which has remained fairly faithful to the original design.

There doesn't seem to be any difference in how the extrusions are arranged from the 2016 rezoning render from earlier in the thread?

The other sides always had a plain jane 60s apartment block vibe to them.

Yeah, this tower went from being highly anticipated to mostly boring, as it has lost much of its flash. I am so happy the same didn't happen with the Kengo Kuma tower next door.
