On the article in the Spec today where Vranich says he just bought the south east corner of King and Caroline.... Wonder if he will connect it to this tower with same density look and feel. With Mac taking the eastern half of block with grad student tower, this would end up being one of the densist areas of Hamilton.

The thought of this block being filled is wild! I think the only remaining lot would be the tiny one at the northwest corner of Bay & George beside the Textile Building.

I wouldn't mind if the podium was consistent but I hope the tower is unique. I really dig the podium height of 7 stories and would like to see it at King/Caroline as well.

I am curious if it would continue in the same style. They could do a King@Hughson style though too where there is some difference that fits.

went by here just now on the way home...the bottom two levels of windows are going in on the west facade and it looks really sharp. If the same quality of materials extends up through the tower, this will be far nicer than his first tower across the street.

It's still a Kirkor building, I wouldn't get too excited.

Do you mean a building designed by Kirkor Architects? If so, it looks like they have designed some pretty nice buildings

Yea, I know some don't like Kirkor, but I've seen some great work by them. And let's be real, Hamilton's tower architecture is largely crap, so it won't take much to be a stand out on our skyline.

Sure, it'll be better than Vrancors fist phase, but kirkor is generally consider d to be a bottom tier architect in Toronto.

As much as Vranich has done for development in Hamilton, which is a ton, I really would like to see him do something grand. All the empty lots in Hamilton were like a blank canvas, and Vrancor has filled a lot of them now with Robert Batemans. I hope he gets to the point where he has enough money in the bank that he starts to care about his legacy. As far as I can tell he doesn't donate to anything or give two cents what the public thinks of him. Maybe that will change!

I think that ship has sailed with the new secondary plan. The building he is currently building on George wouldn't be allowed today with the new restrictions on development.

If he maxes out the lot on the SE corner, he'll still be a few stories shorter than the current build. Kinda hard to do something grand when the city is forcing you to go shorter and less dense. Otherwise, the King/Bay/George/Market area would have been a logical place for our new tallest buildings with some statement architecture. Statement architecture is easier to obtain when cities allow the needed density and # of units to pay for the grand design.

I was speaking with someone who is related to him, and she said he is all about making more, more, more. I think he is probably a tad greedy. He doesn't seem to care about the look, taste and feel of any of his developments. He has built a lot, and it has and will benefit Hamilton, but I think priority number one is money.

All of Kirkor's buildings look great to my eye. I'd welcome any of them here.

Imagine the daily grind for the people who built the Hoover Dam or any other large project involving ginormous volumes of concrete.
