This is planned for that empty lot in SoCo that usually has jewelry/art vendors. It's a boutique motel called Hummingbird. It will have three retail spaces and underground parking.

Strange that the two renderings don't match exactly. Look at the far left of the building.

So I've heard some HEB-related stuff recently. Their plan is to rebuild the Congress/Oltorf store. I asked about the corner they bought across the intersection. The person said they had heard it might be used for a temporary store while the old one gets torn down and rebuilt.

Also heard HEB has some very cool restaurant ideas coming down the pike. They already have that BBQ place in Mueller. But they want multiple restaurants in one place. Think BBQ, tacos, subs, grilled cheeses/melts, shawarma/donair and more.

Here's a large project under construction I haven't seen any discussion about - Garza Ranch off of Mopac & William Cannon. Here's a rendering of the project:

Supposed to contain SHI's global HQ, an Aloft Hotel, and 370 apartment units. Phase One is U/C right now, containing half of the apartments to the right, the office building, and the back parking garage.

This is looking at the apartments to the right and the back parking garage:

This is looking at the office building:

And don't worry, I was a passenger.

Yep. We shop at some of the stores in Sunset Valley, including that Lowes store that this development connects to.

I'm curious to see what the views will be like from the parking garage. There are some views of our tallest from along Jones Road just east of Sunset Valley.

I hadn't thought about the views from some of the garages. Could make for some fancy sunset photos...

Yeah, their plans for that lot was not having another grocery store in that part of town and outbidding whole foods and then letting the space rot.

Why can't they just flip it to a real developer with a "don't let whole foods in here" clause?

Here are some pictures of the Music Lane development on SoCo, across from the Texas School for the Deaf. https://imgur.com/a/ShXWYu3

And here are a couple of the Statesman, plus some downtown viewed from the South.

Nice shots. It seems the RBJ redevelopment is going quite slow. It took years to go from conception to groundbreaking, and the pace hasn't picked up much.

Pretty cool pics. Looks like there will be a street through that development along SoCo. I guess that's the Music Lane. That's gonna create a whole new area for the SoCo District if there's going to be retail and entertainment venues along it.

This place has been on tap (thank you, thank you) for YEARS. They've finally started doing some work to it, and it looks like it'll be ready soon. This is half a mile south of Moontower Saloon, and 3/4 of a mile south of Indian Roller. All on the same side of Manchaca.

Across from Moontower is supposed to be The Goodnight, an adult bowling alley. That's been in the works for awhile, but I haven't seen any progress online yet. Hopefully it's not a gutter ball.

South Austin Beer Garden will open at 10700 Manchaca Road, Austin, later this spring. Operating out of a converted old house, the business will offer 64 taps of beer, cider, wine, craft cocktails and cold brew coffee, as well as root beer for kids. According to co-owner David Pearce, the beer garden will welcome dogs and, during daytime hours, families. Food trucks will also be onsite. An official opening date has not yet been set. 512-659-4263. www.southaustinbeergarden.com

I am SO HERE for a Way South Austin or whatever-it-will-be-called entertainment area on this stretch of Manchaca. It almost feels like a spread-out Rainey for the urban fringe. Speaking of, I always wondered, why there, but it appears that much of that short stretch of Manchaca Road is just outside the city limits. I'm wondering if that means anything or not?

They really need to add a nice, wide sidewalk to the west side of Manchaca in that area. Would really help create a nice district.
