Museum: SCAD Museum of Art
Location: Savannah, Georgia
Architect: ? (original railroad depot), Sottile & Sottile and Lord Aeck & Sargent (museum)
Completed: 1853 and 1856(as railroad depot), 2011 (as museum built within depot ruins)

Museum: Dokumentationszentrum (Documentation Centre) Obersalzberg
Location: Obersalzberg (Berchtesgaden), Bavaria, Germany
Architect: ? (original guesthouse), Aicker-ZT GmbH (museum expansion)
Completed: 193? Guesthouse), 1999 (as museum), 2020 expansion

Germany has a couple "Documentation Centres", a less problematic name than museum of the Nazi era. This one is built on the foundations of an old guesthouse in the Bavarian Alps where Hitler and many Nazi officials had summer homes. originally designed for 30-40,000 annual visitors it is being expanded to meet the current attendance of 150,000 a year. It incorprates the WWII German bunker complex underneath the various buildings.

I like the contrast of the wood and metal finishes in this loft gallery, although it looks a tight space...no wonder they need to excavate new space due to its popularity!

Museum: The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston - Brown Pavilion, Caroline Weiss Law Building
Location: Houston, TX
Architect: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
Completed: 1974

This is one of only two museums designed by Mies, the other being the Neue National Gallery in Berlin.
This is the only non-rectilinear building ever designed by Mies van der Rohe.
Inside, hidden from view behind this 1974 addition, is an earlier addition, Cullinan Hall, also designed by Mies van der Rohe and completed in 1958.

There's a second floor gallery, a first floor exhibition space, plus quite a bit of wall space being used as well. I'm sure I've missed something. The website lists, I believe, three named galleries.

As a side note, when I was there on a Saturday, the stairs that cross the atrium space were blocked. When I've been there on weekdays, they've been open. There's also a roof garden which can be accessed by elevator, by using the "scary stairs" inside, or by walking up the sloping roof from the public plaza outside.

Yes, that was taken at a quiet moment! Amazing visitation numbers considering it is up a steep alpine road from Berchtesgaden.

Looks like a lot of great exhibits, but the architecture strikes me as being as far away from the popular image of Charleston as you can get!
