It also demonstrates the stunting effect on the skyline from downtown being at the riverbank.
The other out of town angle that jumped to mind was heading back into town from Whitecap dog park. And you can only see River Landing (no street view as most recent predates that construction).

Central Ave gives you a nice view up the river from south of McOrmond:

I wonder how a time traveller from 1965 would answer this question, back when Calgary's skyline was more like what Saskatoon's is now.

Also, Calgary has the benefit of the foothills to help skyline visibility, despite its downtown's low lying position.

Indeed. The Superstack in Sudbury (second tallest structure in Canada at 1,250ft) is sometimes hard to see from <10km away. I can generally see downtown Toronto from as far out as the 401 on a clear day.

I think you can see the downtown Toronto from Vaughan along Hwy 400. Either before or just after Canada's Wonderland I think. You can see it very clearly along Hwy 407 in many places.

Toronto from the Skylon Tower at the Falls. 67 KM as the crow flies from the Skylon Tower to the CN Tower.

The last time I was up the CN tower (this summer, at the revolving restaurant), I could make out the tallest structures in Niagara Falls with the naked eye.

On especially clear days it's possible to see Nova Scotia around Digby from Saint John, so i'm assuming the opposite is true. Distance is roughly 65-70km. Not sure if the Saint John skyline can be seen but definitely the shore line.

It's hard enough to see the Saint John skyline from NB let alone NS.

It's the...hilly terrain! That's why it's so hard to see. Yeah!

Very brave of someone from Moncton to enter a skyline-viewing contest.

Still waiting for Hamilton to build something tall/shiny enough to be seen from the CN Tower.

Perhaps a large reflective mirror on a 100M podium so that Toronto can gaze back upon all it's reflected glory.
