Our alley has a slight grade to it and it was re-paved a few years ago, when it really gets melting it's like a river back there. I have to admit I get a kick out of watching it.

We have those really shallow curbs in the front street and right now the compacted snow on the street is higher than the sidewalk so we're fighting ice buildup over night. It'll be like that until the street melts

I forgot how much fun it was to chip ice in the gutters to get things to drain. Used to love doing that as a kid...and have gotten the chance the last few nights to do it...just another reason to love owning a house and getting to putz around outside.

One of the guys on my street has a skid steer and will screw around clearing snow for neighbors, another guy will go out with his snowblower after we get a couple inches and do everybody's sidewalk on our street...about 20 house. Then there is another guy who will walk around with his back pack blower and blow everybody's driveway (assuming they have already shoveled it) to get them perfectly clean.

really want to leave the office right now and go home and chip ice!

^ We've got the snow blower brigade on our street. It's almost a race to see who can get out first & start clearing. Our neighbor across the back alley is a retired engineer and he'll literally clear the entire alley with his snow blower, he'll be out there for hours. One of our next door neighbor is a boilermaker and a really good guy, he'll do our front sidewalk for us every time it snows and even clear the street out in front of the house so there's a nice clear place to park. I'll buy him a 15 pack of Bud every once in a while. Having good neighbors makes all the difference.

Neighbors on either side share clearing snow. depends on who is out first. or how heavy. I get the blower out first if it is a heavy snow. Funny the last snow most people just left it.

We've just got a little Toro single stage snow thrower. It's fine unless you get over a foot on the ground, then it struggles a little. Everyone else has large 2 stage blowers.

Sorry. My initial comment wasn't meant to come across as flippant. I think you can tell that some of us enjoy the task a bit.

No additional neighbors in the area that are willing to 'chip' in? (pun intended) No kids starting to make appearances outside and looking for something 'fun' to do? It sounds pretty severe if you can't locate the drain.

The following site does have this text on it: "We will investigate any concerns regarding missing, broken, loose, blocked manhole covers or catch basins and repair them if required."

Picked up a battery operated single stage. Can compete head to Head with the bug gas ones.

Unfortunately this isn’t that type of neighbourhood. Zero community spirit. I also fear the kids are chained in the basements cause I never see kids at all.

I got the drain cleared though. Probably cost me a repetitive stress injury though. I made a note in my phone for next year where it is exactly. All it took was to break a small hole in the corner and everything drained.

I've used Google Earth to find the drain on my street.

Spent 4 hours on sunday trying to put on the summer tires.

Fronts were rusted right to the hub. Tried banging them with the blunt end of my long axe, tying a come along to the wheels and a tree and winching them, spraying with wd40....ended up having to borrow a neighbors sledge hammer and beat the shit out of them to break the rusted seal.

This never happened before the city started to spray that shit on the roads.

The Province uses it on the highways as well. In all likelihood the brine will continue to be used, so get used to it.

^ Uses it in select areas of the province

I believe the province uses different application methods as well.

^^ last weekend I took both vehicles in for a wash, The '16 4Runner which gets driven almost every day and the '10 Tacoma that gets driven rarely. I was really surprised to see how much surface rust had developed on the frame on the 4Runner, especially compared to the Tacoma. The 4Runner gets washed every other week in the winter but the truck is lucky to get a wash twice a year, and the surface rust on the frame of the newish 4Runner is almost as bad as on the somewhat neglected 9 year old truck.

Can't wait for the brown spots all over the lawn along the sidewalk again this spring. We try to keep our yards looking nice in spite of the city not giving a shit about how public green spaces look. Now with upcoming bagging restrictions I don't know why we bother anymore. My yard can look like crap just like the rest of the city does. Who am I kidding no it won't.

All the brown gritty shit and sludge is just as ugly so can’t win either way. Last winter I thought the city did a pretty good job despite the complaints but not sure what happened this year so much sludge... side of every road is a muddy mess. And the province dumped tons of rocks on all the henday overpasses. Like a good 1 inch layer of rocks even though the passes were bone dry smh...

I'm thinking of replacing my front lawn with rock.

I have an 02 Sequoia and it's not so bad but this winter seems to have been hard on it. I'm going to try to POR15 everything this summer.

Steel wheels? I've always had grief with them since I first got winter tires back in 2008 in BC. I started putting anti-seize on the back of the wheels where it meets the hub and it helps a little. But I switched my car to winter alloys which are supposedly more resistant to pitting.

Steel wheels??? shit no. What am I, some 17 year old girl driving a sunfire?

Stock rims become winter rims. Aftermarket for the summer. Always.

Standard 20" factory rims off a 4Runner Limited
