Clean up the area .. and then redevelop the land??

Its not exactly a nuclear waste site ... just a rail yard.. a similar process occured when they prepared the Forks site.

If that rail yard was ever cleared, I'l love to see the Disraili extended all the way out to McPhillips. That could make a very nice parkway going through the innercity, which is greatly lacking. I think the stop and go traffic is due for an upgrade.

I've always liked the plan, although fairly generic, found here (See CPR Yards).

The tank farm out on Henderson is almost as big. Tanker trucks are constantly getting filled up there.

..... innercity stop and go is a complete waste of time and really just deters people. A beautified parkway extending the Disraili would make driving through the innercity a much more appealing process, as Memorial Drive does in Calgary, than the current unattractive stop and go snail ride. As the innercity is seeing more and more investment, especially around the HSC, having a parkway linking it to other major routes, while replacing the railyard would make the area a much more attractive location for people and business.

Of course this is little more than fantasy, as I have not heard much about the railyard relocation. Until then ... my ideas will live on Simcity.

Ahh, I see, so the second hump would have to be eliminated then.

An intelligent city planner could make it work. Its no more complex than Cheif Pegeus Trail extention, or the Charleswood Parkway extention.

Massive demolition would be be nessesary.... if planned out carefully.

... but... cities grow and change ... if the rail yards were to be moved I would be the first calling for longterm planning. Winnipeg's access to an innercity expressway has been long overdue, especially if we are to draw more significant investment to the area.

Hey, did anyone catch all the work that's about to be done on the TCH through Manitoba...and this is just part of the money. There will be much more over the next two years.

I always thought a freeway should go beside Pembina Highway and connect to where Sterling Lyon Parkway is now...I guess where the BRT is going. Pembina is such a slow route and it shouldn't take as long as it does to travel such short distances in this city.
