Mountain View Corridor could soon be a reality


" Three land developers are donating land where the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will build a portion of the roadway.

The three developers have donated land worth $60 million to $80 million to build a segment of the Mountain View Corridor that extends from 9000 South to Lehi. Ultimately they're hoping the corridor will help ease traffic along I-15."

Legislative leaders announced a deal Friday with local developers to donate as much as $80 million in land on which to build the Mountain View Corridor in southern Salt Lake County — a move that will speed construction of the planned highway.
In addition, a plan was announced for a mass transit line along 5600 West in Salt Lake County, adjacent to a proposed route for Mountain View along 5800 West. The transit line has been a source of contention for environmental groups who have worried the state is building a pollution-producing highway without a transit option.

Officials are concerned that folks will drive in from areas surrounding the suburb to park and then catch the train - expected to be in operation by 2013.
Or, they worry that the access to commuter rail will cause more people to move into the one-house-per-acre community.

Bluffdale rejects but the state may allow UTA to build the stop anyway. There is a bill in the state senate I think that will allow UTA until 2013 to build a station and place tracks where it is needed, regardless of what city councils think.

His wife is a friend of a friend of mine and she said that he quit because the city wasn't progressive enough.

A third of Bluffdale recently broke away from the rest of the city because the council wouldn't approve any construction with density higher than 1 unit per acre.

That is exactly what Bluffdale doesn't want. They are completely anti establishment. Last year the Mayor sued the City Council They have lost a third of their city, Thanks to James Sorensen and Rosecrest . Someone told me that the only reason The Maverick Gas Station (Bluffdales one and only Retail property) on Rewood Road is allowed is because the owner lives in Bluffdale.

Well, I can understand to some degree. Bluffdalians moved out there to "escape the city," just as those in Lehi did.

Now both cities are getting pressure to grow from both sides. They should embrace it like Draper ... because right now they want to build some pretty swanky homes.

Now a days if people want to escape the city they are going to have to move clear down to Payson or Nephi.

So they had the Front Runner cars on display in Ogden today. Got to check out the inside which seemed nice, the design is functionality over comfort but still not bad. Some cool features are that there are "laptop desks" like the one in the photo. Power outlets are available below the desks and wi fi throughout.

It is predicted that by 2050 Brigham City to Nephi will all be considered Urban, not downtown type of urban but Salt Lake Valley I-15 corridor type of Urban.

...The Utah Transit Authority confirmed that it will work to open a fast bus line along 5600 West from 2700 South to 6200 South, eventually to connect to 11800 South on one end and Salt Lake City International Airport on the other.
The line could become the precursor for a light rail line....

It's the Los Anglification of the Wasatch Front. The difference is we have so many advantages!

• Our metro is linear.
• Our metro can't sprawl more than a few miles off the I-15 corridor without hitting natural growth boundaries like mountains or lakes.
• We've been very proactive in keeping up with I-15.
• The Legacy Highway project (Parkway, MVC, Legacy North, future Saratoga Springs to Nephi road) will help us maintain a corridor within these growth boundaries.
• Because the metro is so linear, commuter rail will actually WORK!
