There is definitely a cycle to road maintenance. I remember a time about 7-8 years ago when Rodney McDonald was Premier in NS when the 104 in northern NS was in horrible shape, but TCH 2 in SE New Brunswick was pristine.

What goes around comes around. Things may be entirely different in 3-4 years time…….

Thought I would change the topic a little.

I have always thought we should have a federal highway system in Canada similar to the US interstate system. If we had such a national program, this would be my suggested routings for an expressway system here in the Maritimes.

Neat idea. I'd add a proper highway route to Charlottetown from route 15 on the NB side though.

Sweet! It's been 30 years, hopefully this fosters some increased trade between Fredericton and Miramichi/Bathurst.

Now if only they'd fix the interchange at the end of the Princess Margaret Bridge.

Yes was looking at that on Google Maps, that is very odd that they didn't do anything with that, they have the space to do it, anyone know why it wasn't done between the bridge and Bakers Point Bypass? I am assuming someone owns the land and doesn't want to sell?

It's all crown land, but it comes down to money. Eventually it will get done. Same as the #2 & #1 highways and eventually there wont be any traffic lights on Wheeler in Moncton.

The 2007 municipal plan, as well as the 2010 Capital City Traffic Study, have both said it should be done. The completion of the Bypass, coupled with the TCH realignment back in '01, should seal the deal. At this point expect either this :

or like this:

in a few years.
Link to Study PDF if anybody is curious. This part is on page 94.

Municpal Plan: Original proposal (look at page 11)
Map (PDF)

IMO it should definitely happen. The Southside ramps shoudl also be reconfigured so that the northbound ramps end in a signalized intersection, not that strange, dangerous thing we're stuck with now.

Edit: Fixed image #2

Your pictures are the same. I looked it up tho, and the 2nd option is a roundabout which I think is a bad idea. I like some of the ideas in the study tho!

Now that they are done with the Marysville Bypass, are they going to start on Route 11 in Shediac? I was up there a week or 2 ago and did't see any construction yet.

There's a lot of stakes along 134 and construction zone signs up. I'd say soon...

The roundabout would eliminate signalized intersections though, which to me is a hugely positive thing.

You can always meet in the middle. This post from the Fredericton thread talks about twinning the bridge, which will probably not happen for many years since a third bridge is a better idea, but I like what he did with the ramps on both sides of the river.

I suppose. I like roundabouts but I don't feel like highways are the place for them. I like what NS has been doing but building roundabouts at the intersections of the highway ramps similar to the post from the Fredericton thread.

Does anybody know anything about the Miramichi North bypass? They have the right of way purchased and clear cut but nothing else has been done. I'm curious as to when the project first came about and if there is any word on it ever being complete or if it is just going to become like the proposed highway 113 in Halifax.

Also here is route map for a different bypass in the area:

And a link to the PDF:

A quick Google search turned up nothing. It certainly looks like something that should be done, that turn onto Beaverbrook Blvd. is about as awkward as the turn from onto Bridge St. in Marysville before the new bypass.
