Is this a go for a spring opening? Are they still planning on pumping water upstream to create a constant flow or has that been nixed due to cost overruns?

I hadn't heard about any changes about not pumping water up, what would be the point of the intake and all the years wasted to rebuild it. Unless I missed it, I'm sure that the water will be pumped up to keep the creek flowing year around.

For the love of God I wish they can demolished those ugly state parking garages and add some mixed-use developments around the park. It just ruins the vibe.

I agree. Those parking garages are hideous. Even they just had “green” roofs it would be much more fitting.

Aren’t they going to sell those lots once they’re done building all those new offices?

I believe those garages are already built as high possible because of CVC’s.

They can still demolish them and build undeground parking instead, with retail and restaurants at street level. Those businesses would do so well on gamedays, and there would be regular clientele from the government buildings. Now with Waller Creek opening up at some point, there would definitely be business for tourism in that area, especially being so close to the Capitol.

It doesn't seem all that walkable, at least from the last picture. Is that an area of non walkability exception? I don't know the area or the overall plan which is why I'm asking. Also, it would be nice if they could clear out some of the 'nature' in the Waller Creek area and keep it full of water also.

I can't quite tell where that last photo is from. But from the concept plan

https://www.austintexas.gov/edims/do....cfm?id=139295

page 13, the bike/pedestrian connectivity will follow the creek from Waterloo Park to 7th, and Palm Park to the lake.

From 7th to Palm, it diverts to Sabine Street (which is one reason they built the "Sabine Street Promenade"). At least for now, with current development.

The park (and inlet) is Phase 1 of the Waterloo Greenway (https://waterloogreenway.org/), a linear park running along Waller Creek down to the river. It will be extremely walkable and an absolutely amazing destination when completed - our riparian version of the Highline in NYC.

If by last picture you are referring to the area they are doing bank stabilization next to the building, that is just south of 15th Street. North of 15th Street through the UT Medical Center and UT Campus are not part of Waterloo Greenway. There is no trail within the creek banks in that area.

They could, they could. But in this case, ‘they’ is the State of Texas. So they won’t.

They could always just make the Capitol taller first.
