This is why she’s a great mayor @Masters is showing a lot more confidence than her predecessors.

“The tracks on Ring Road will be relocated. I am very confident in that actually in the big scheme of things. Whether that is three years from now or five years from now, it will be coming. It really is a question of how fast we can get that initial study done, which again, is probably put on a bit of a fast track due to some of these announcements and then it will be a matter of getting the construction in place to be make it happen,” Masters insisted.

It is likely more information will be forthcoming later this year as Masters and the Regina administration solidify some of the details.

Anyone know why the signage is missing from Hill Tower 1? Did it blow off in the wind? Or did they lose their main tenant?

That was the old HSBC bank,they moved to the old Canada Trust building. The one with the white geese statue in front.

The building at 11th Avenue and Hamilton Street was originally the Pioneer Trust Building. Their sign was on the top of the building for a very short time before the business collapsed (bankruptcy) in 1985. At the time, it was the "largest financial failure in Saskatchewan's history". I have attached a link to the story from Macleans's magazine, if you want to read about Pioneer's demise.

After Pioneer Trust, it became the Canada Trust Building, and then Conexus. I'm curious if an illuminated HSBC logo will go on top of this building.

As for the signage removed from the top of Hill Tower I, I have a feeling that they will be replacing it with glass to match the rest of the building. Harvard has changed those signs a few times as well, from Continental Bank, to Lloyd's Bank, to HSBC, and now, nothing. The three openings were designed to be the size of six of the glass panels (per sign) used on the towers, in case they decided to no longer have signs up there, as is now the case. They have painted the steelwork dark gray just so the absence of any signs isn't as noticeable on first glance, or from a distance.

This is long overdue! I think originally that area was enclosed as part of the tree nursery but the fence was relocated several years back.

I sincerely hope that the ex-signs are replaced with glass. Ever since Tower I was built, the logos atop there looked very amateurish - as compared to logos atop of other buildings.

They've basically just doubled the width of the concrete sidewalk.

Understandably, this was probably the most cost-effective way of going about this but it doesn't really have a MUP feel to it, the way asphalt would, and there could be some apprehension to use a bike on this sidewalk. Signage will be very important, I think. I also worry that over the years, the sidewalk will degrade (as all concrete does, especially here) and the cost to repair/replace will be expensive as compared to asphalt and will just get pushed back.

I'm sure my worries are invalid but that's just the vibe I get from first glance.

No. The green-and-black logo (with the horse) belongs to Lloyd's Bank, and in turn Lloyd's Bank Canada, which was a wholly owned Canadian subsidiary of financial giant Lloyd's Bank plc of the United Kingdom, from 1986 to 1990. They had 53 branches in Canada. They had acquired the assets of Continental Bank, and after a few years of losses, they sold Lloyd's Bank Canada to HSBC. All three of these occupied the same banking space on the main floor of Hill Centre Tower I (at different times), hence the three different logos atop the tower.

I can't recall if Pioneer Trust had a logo, but one would think they did. I do however recall that the illuminated name 'Pioneer Trust' was at the top of the building, facing northwest towards the Royal Bank Building. Pioneer Trust also had a branch in the Southland Mall that was designed to look like an early 20th century bank, complete with tin ceilings.

I know what you are saying. Although the Lloyd's logo, and the HSCB logo, are famous around the world, I think it was the fact that these signs were made of fabric stretched across frames, and backlit. Harvard did a very poor job maintaining those lights over the years, so most of the time the logos looked crappy at night. I know, because I see the towers from my apartment downtown. It also bugged me that there were two logos 90° to each other on the north-west corner. Just one would have sufficed on that corner, IMO. None would have been better, so I hope there won't be any more signs, especially when Tower II has no signs on top.

Pioneer had TWO sets of "raised" lettering atop. One was atop the northwest-facing side and the other was along the west-facing side. The lettering looked very sharp indeed; however, it also looked silly to have "Pioneer" spanning about 90% of the width of each face whilst adjacent each other.

Ammendment here: There was also a "Pioneer" facing directly to the east; here were actually three of them on the building.

Furthermore, the original HSBC logos atop of Tower I had their logo with a BLACK matte; that lasted for about a year. After that, they changed them to WHITE for chrissakes!!! (Probably because of HSBC's colours.) When the HSBC's logos were black, they looked pretty good!!! The Continental Bank logos looked pretty good too.

Now let’s talk about the ugly video signage boards that replaced the defined and stylized letter signage at Casino Regina. Far worse than the just taken down HSBC square. (Palm to forehead).
