I agree with all your observations about the look of the buildings and the central location.

But I especially agree that a B-Line between Metrotown and Brentwood is a looming necessity.

The developments around Brentwood planned or underway and their completed presence will only "fill out" Brentwood even more:
adjacent to the actual Brentwood town Centre itself, plus, the relentless increases in Metrotown are going to make to "sub-cities" facing each other across the valley.
That B-Line you mention will probably materialize over the next decade (maybe less) and- if the world is still intact by 2034 (in fifteen years),
something perhaps approaching a grade seperated tramway may link the two centres. If not that, then whatever approaches one's preference.

A Willingdon B-Line is already planned. There are the four B-Lines they're setting up now and then another six B-Lines planned for after that.
  • Lions Gate B-Line: From downtown Vancouver to Lynn Valley via the Lions Gate Bridge. The City of Vancouver is already considering a redesign of West Georgia Street that could significantly improve the street for buses.
  • Victoria Drive B-Line: From downtown Vancouver to Marine Drive via Hastings Street and Victoria Drive.
  • Ironworkers-Willingdon B-Line: From Phibbs Exchange in North Vancouver to Brentwood Station and Metrotown Station via Willingdon Avenue. This will also provide a rapid connection between the mid-points of the Expo Line and Millennium Line.
  • Richmond-Metrotown B-Line: From Metrotown Station in Burnaby to Bridgeport Station – for a connection to Vancouver International Airport – and Richmond-City Centre Station in Richmond.
  • 120 Street-White Rock B-Line: From Scott Road Station in Surrey to Newton Exchange in Surrey via 120 Street, then to White Rock. It will connect with the Surrey Newton-Guildford LRT line at Newton.
  • Coquitlam-Langley B-Line: From Coquitlam Central Station to Langley Centre via the Pitt River Bridge and the Golden Ears Bridge.

Yes that's why I said if/when. If it was last year I would have said when, but with what is going on with the B-Line on the North Shore esp. West Vancouver, and changes at the Mayor's Council, I'm not 100% confident it will happen.

If you read the actual plan, slight correction to your post Sheba, the Ironworkers-Willingdon B-Line is not a new B-line but is an extension of the North Shore B-Line and thus contingent on the North Shore B-Line which has hit a huge snag. If there are delays or major changes to the North Shore B-Line, you could see the Ironworkers-Willingdon B-Line deferred, changed, delayed, or even dropped. I mean look at the 96-B as an example of this. The first phase was Guildford > Newton via Surrey Central. Phase B was to be Newton to South Surrey/White Rock.

Where's Phase B? We're still waiting.

I think it has to happen eventually, but yah I'm now if/when esp. given there is bus service already along Willingdon, and Burnaby is one of if not the most served of cities Metro-Vancouver by Transit.

Either way this project is still in an outstanding location.

Grade Seperated Tramways are effectively Skytrains...

Source for the B-line being an extension of the North Shore B-line? I wouldn't be surprised if it was, just can't find the report.

The North Shore B-line should still be able to extend to Willingdon- the issues in West Van are not indicative of the wider region, especially not Surrey.

Phase B was supposed to happen; then it was cancelled due to lack of cash. The buses allocated for it were moved to the 41st Ave corridor due to overcrowding.

Quote:
In late 2009, plans to introduce the #399 and another new route (the #531) were cancelled.
I found information of this in a Peace Arch News article from November 2009, which read: “New buses cancelled”. According to Drew Snider from TransLink, the Mayors’ Council on Regional Transportation had approved a funding plan that would generate some new revenue for TransLink, but not enough to fund the introduction of either bus route.
This was a period when budget and revenues were always a concern for a “cash-strapped” TransLink. With the uncertainty of the upcoming 2010 Olympics and how ridership would fare on the then-opened Canada Line, it’s not hard to see why the Regional Mayors’ Council would have voted against introducing the #399 at the time.
Eventually, with the success of both the Olympics and the Canada Line, new problems on our transit system came up and they needed to be dealt with.
In the years following the opening of the Canada Line, the #49 bus route between UBC and Metrotown Station (connecting with the Canada Line’s Langara-49th Station) became the system’s most overcrowded bus route and the single worst route for pass-ups. A May 2011 article by the Vancouver Sun uncovered this data: passengers on the #49 were passed up more than 16,000 times in 2010 – an average of 43 pass-up instances per day.
This spurred a very significant change to route #49 in September 2010: the route, which had previously only ever been served with standard-sized buses, began to run with 60-foot articulated buses based from Richmond Transit Centre on weekdays – the same ones that were to have been allocated to the #399. With the Richmond buses now busy on routes like the #49, introducing the #399 would now come with an additional challenge: it would likely be necessary to buy new buses.
The plans will almost certainly be revisited, especially since the cancellation of the Fraser Hwy B-line, and the truncation of the West Van B-line are going to provide extra cash that should go somewhere. The original idea was the money from the Fraser Hwy B-line would be reallocated to improving the 96. If there's money left over, White Rock should be back on the table.

Oh I have no doubt there will be tweaking before any of those lines goes live - that still lists LRT. The point is that's it's not some far distant idea to maybe eventually perhaps put a B-Line on Willingdon - it's already on their to-do list.

Extending the 96 makes more sense that having the 319 B-Line continue down to White Rock. It shows just how much they weren't planning to extend the LRT.

After the current Skytrain plans, how far down the list do you think a Willingdon Skytrain line is?

Does anyone have an explanation for the corner red glass panel, 5th picture from the bottom? I was always curious as to why that was there but I was hoping one of you guys with more knowledge can enlighten me.

Just to add colour. There are other such panels, textures and lighting effects throughout the shopping area.

Waaay down the list. I can think of at least 2 routes within Vancouver PROPER that would be built before any rail rapid transit down Willingdon.

B line between Brentwood and Metrotown should be implemented ASAP. A most cost effective way to connect the two centers. Think of the convenience for staffs and students alike for BCIT, EA , Hospital , shoppers who want to visit both centers. Any other method is misuse of taxpayer money, way too overkill for a simple solution.

Fairly far down the line. At least a Hastings/West End Line, UBC Millennium Line Extension, 104-KGB Skytrain, Expo Line Langley Extension, and a Nosth Shore Skytrain are going to be built before a Willingdon Skytrain probably, considering congestion and usefulness. Willingdon isn't useless, it's actually the opposite- just not in the immediate priority list. It's even more the case because Burnaby has a disproportionately large amount of Skytrain, meaning giving it more for a corridor that can still be serviced by a B-line capacity-wise is going to be viewed as less 'fair'.

Well, if we had the money, I wouldn't consider it so much a 'misuse' considering improvements in speed and convenience Skytrain would provide.

Any owners in Tower 1 get a viewing yet? I wonder if the released photos of the rental units are the same as the purchased units.

I hate how they made the counter tops grey instead of white, and changed the black marble kitchen back splash...

It's modernist design the geometric lines plus the primary color/s, inspired by/kinda like Dutch artist Mondrian's work.

I saw a very well lit section at the ground floor in the evening/s, very much further and kinda behind the stairs, along the Lougheed side. Not sure if they're entrances to Tower 1 or parking. Looks quite impressive.

With that said... anyone know if the commercial portion will be accessible to the public before yearend even if not fully occupied by shops etc yet?

Btw, the space looks quite small/tight in those unit pics.

The mesh signs on the fencing says something like "Retail openings start in 2019" so I think it'll be gradual, with lots of empty spaces (whether due to inability to lease or tenant construction taking time).

I came across the website they have for rentals. The cached image said Spring at one point. Now it says summer. THe last addendum said target is may 31 to july 31 for tower 1 Who knows if thats the final delay. This thing is taking forever. Just make it happen, Shape. I wonder if the Lougheed project timing will be this off. Great project but man i wish i knew exactly what the gaps have been.
